Gramp"s Camp
Step away from the cell phone, computer and hustle of life and relax in the beauty of the Maine woods and waters. Take a deep breath of balsam ladened air. The fishing is some of the best in the state ! Bring your boat or kayak to wander the lake which adjoins other lakes and the Grand Falls Flowage. Grand Lake Stream for fly fishing is 12 miles away. Or bring your snow mobile and enjoy the many trails nearby in this part of the state. Please read ALL about this listing before you book. This cabin is my second home and I ask you to treasure it with respect and care as I do. It is not fancy and it is a bit rustic but if you are looking for a place of peace and quiet, you will find it here. The cabin has all amenities on the second floor. Garage/laundry is on the first floor. There is no smoking allowed on the property and though I do have pets, in case of allergy issues for guests, I ask you to leave yours at home. (Too many issues in the past prompted this policy and I make no exceptions.) There is an outdoor fireplace or a grill for cookouts. In town, 1 mile away, is a very nice grocery store (with very fresh lobster and clams) and an Ace hardware should you need a license to fish. Also most of the stores uptown carry bundles of firewood in case our supply is low. There are 7 acres with this house but if you're not familiar with the woods stay within sight of the cabin. The woods are thick and we do have bear, lynx, bobcats and moose. As you come down the driveway and face the lake my land runs to the right of the cabin. The property line is very close to the house on the left and that neighbor likes his privacy. All of my neighbors like their peace and quiet so we ask you to not run any 4 wheelers or motorcycles up and down the driveway. You are apt to hear the loons, eagles and owls frequently, especially in the early morning or evening hours. Also the Milky Way and shooting stars are easily seen in the clear night air. Washer and dryer are downstairs, living quarters are all upstairs. You will need to bring all of your own food and beverages, and kindly take ALL of your leftovers with you. You may notice some food supplies and beverages here. They belong to my family as we are here quite often year around. As most of the electricity in the house is supported by solar we do not have a microwave which does take quite a bit of electricity. You are stepping back in time a bit here but that’s the way my family likes it. Please when you leave, make sure that all wet towels and linens are left either in the hamper or in the washing machine. I appreciate you also leaving the bedding on the beds and not on the floor and doing up all your dishes before you depart. If you move anything inside or outside please place it back before you leave. Clean up anything spilled and if something breaks please let me know. Leaving the cabin as neat and clean as you found it keeps our costs down all around and I appreciate your help with this. And we ask that you are out if the cabin out by 11 AM promptly please. We have to take extra time for cleaning due to Covid and we have a lot of guests coming in lately so we want to make sure everything is sanitized appropriately. If you are around, trash goes out to the end of the driveway early on Tuesdays. My dock is usually in the water from late May until mid September so you are welcome to bring your boats or kayaks. If you like to fish bring your tackle, we have a large variety of fish in this lake and nearby waters. There is no hunting/trapping allowed anywhere on my property. I do have internet available. Once your reservation is confirmed I will give you my email address and cell phone number in case you have questions or concerns. My neighbor does keep an eye on things while I am away and she is also my housekeeper so I have someone who can help if needed for further information. This is a very quiet area but easily accessible to the ocean or hiking trails. There are some restaurants and a golf course in Calais. Eastport is about 45 minutes from the cabin, with whale watching tours and eclectic shops to explore. Baxter state park is about three hours away. And Acadia is about 2 hours away from here. Only folks over 21 making reservations please. This is a year around home that is heated by a solar system in the floor. I also use solar for most of the electric. But for those long nights in the winter we are on the grid with a generator backup system. Please do not touch any settings with water or heat. These are preset. As you leave the cabin, even briefly, turn off all lights and fans. You may notice an orange color in the bathroom shower and sink and in the kitchen. Large amounts of sulfur in the water is to blame. Internet is now available.
