Encanto Lodge: Cabaña Tapir
Encanto Lodge consists of several cabañas at a unique location where you can find all in one: Jungle, river and beach! Beside a trail in the jungle, our guests can take our kayaks and canoes to reconnect with nature and discover the local wildlife on the river, lagoon and a pristine beach. Our guests have the opportunity to enjoy amazing sunsets from our restaurant or the beach in front of Encanto Lodge. This specific cabaña is called Tapir and has ocean view. We offer Cabañas nestled between jungle, garden and river. We decorated our rooms with wall paintings depicting the local wildlife. Our guests can relax in the hammocks surrounded by nature or choose from a variety of tours that allow them to dive even more into nature and look for special wildlife of interest, e.g. our special Encanto night tour where you can look for the bright eyes of the crocodiles, a trip to the world famous Corcovado National Park or Diving at Caño Island. Encanto lodge is a family-run business speaking fluently English, Spanish and German. In our restaurant with traditional palm roof and ocean view, we prepare breakfast and dinner for our guests (not included in the rate, please reserve 1/2 day in advance), offer the free service to pick you up from Drake Bay airport or the boat station and free parking for guests arriving by car. Looking forward to meet you soon! Our guest can access - the cabaña they choose to stay in - the restaurant with ocean view - our kayaks and canoes - our private trail along the river and in the jungle - the beach - trails to a secret paradise beach and others - tours to spot wildlife of interest for extra cost (Night Tour, Corcovado National Park, Caño Island, Whale and Dolphin Watching, Sea Turtle Tour (Aug-Dec), Poisonous Dart Frog Tour, Bird Watching, Archaeology Tour, Canopy Tour) We (Edu and Sabrina with our two daugthers) live on the property as well. We try to share our knowledge about the wildlife with you as we can (Edu is a naturalist guide and Sabrina a biologist) and we can give you more explanations about the area, hiking trails and tours. We also cook the meals for our guests. Edu or sometimes another taxi driver will pick you up at your point of arrival. We are very remote, 200m from the beach, next to a lagoon, a river. You can find a lot of wildlife and different trails for walking and hiking. Drake Bay consists of 10 little villages. We are at 2km from the village El Progreso where you can find pre-columbine Stone spheres, a little bar and 2 shops. We are at 5km from the Drake Bay center town called Agujitas, where you can find more supermarkets and restaurants. Drake Bay is a good spot for getting into Corcovado National Park and to Caño Island, also for lots of other wildlife activities. We are close to the Drake Bay airport (approximate 2-6 little planes a day). We offer a free pick-up service from your arrival point in Drake Bay. In order to be able to pick you up (in time) please let us know about your arrival place and time with anticipation or call us at (+ (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) We include the transport to the tours we organize. If you want to get around by yourself you can walk to the little village El Progreso de Drake (20min). Agujitas de Drake (Drake Center) is far for walking (1,5h), you could take a taxi ($20) to Agujitas (Drake Bay Center). If you want to go to Agujitas regularly we recommend to come with your own car. How to get to Encanto Lodge: - By plane: Sansa, Aerobell and Skyway fly to Drake Bay from San José. - By bus and boat: Take a bus from the TRACOPA Bus terminal until Palmar Norte. Take a (collective) taxi to Sierpe (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) min., $5 p.p. if collective). Take the boat to Drake Bay (about 1 hour boat ride). We recommended taking the one at 11:30 a.m. ($15 p.p. = cheaper and you get here by daylight). Ask for Alex (“Chancha”), he will be your Captain. Or take the boat at 3:30 p.m. (20$ p.p.) and let us know about your arrival and we will pick you up at the beach. - by car: we strongly recommend a car with 4 wheel drive. In raining season, we recommend to plan your arrival around midday or in the early afternoon in order to avoid possible heavy afternoon rain falls. Option A: Drive all the way south until Chacarita (last gasoline station before Drake Bay), at the intersection there turn right to Puerto Jimenez / Bahía Drake and follow this street until Rincón before the bridge. There you turn right in the direction to Drake (gravel road). Follow the road until the little village El Progreso. El Progreso is before the big river “Rio Drake” and before the center of Drake (which is also called Agujitas). In Progreso, turn to the right until Drake Airport where you find a little road parallel to the runway until our parking area. Option B: Drive to Palmar Norte, after the bridge over Terraba turn right to Sierpe. In Sierpe, take the ferry to the other side of the river and continue to drive until the village El Progreso (you need to turn right after the school). Before the Rio Drake, turn right again until Drake Airport where you find a little road parallel to the runway until our parking area. For meals please reserve minimum 1/2 day in advance. Please let us know about allergies/special diets. Please let us know with anticipation about your arrival time and place so we can wait for you on time and pick you up at your point of arrival (the boat station is 20min by car from Encanto Lodge). If you come by car, use a 4×4 vehicle. In Drake Bay there is no bank and no ATM. We do not accept credit cards. We recommend bringing cash for your activities. Rates are in US$ but for sure we also receive Colones to the actual exchange rate of Banco Nacional de Costa Rica ("venta"). The tours to Caño Island (Snorkeling and Diving), Corcovado National Park and Bug Lady need a reservation at midday/early afternoon the day before. Please let us know with anticipation if you want to participate in these tours. We recommend bringing flashlights for walking after sunset, sun protection, insect repellent, raincoat and rubber (or hiking) boots (especially in raining season), sandals, beach towel.
