Room #2 in a historic home built in 1918. Described by campaign staffers as Harry Potter-esque, this expansive home is centrally located to everything in Des Moines. Guests visiting Des Moines University (DMU) usually walk the <1 mile down beautiful Grand Ave. Drake University is just a bit farther, and not within walking distance. Unity Point, Mercy One, & Iowa Lutheran = 10 minutes drive. Downtown = 7 minutes. Weekly stays discounted 15%. 30 day stays discounted 25%. Your room comes with a comfortable queen bed, desk, dresser and good sized closet. The shared spa bathroom is at the end of the hall. Guests have their own keys to the front door and their bedroom. 1 refrigerator in the kitchen is set aside for guests. Filtered water and ice, a coffee maker, Viking range and an oven are all available in the kitchen. Guests are welcome to hang out on the front terrace at any time. Your host is on site and has lived in Des Moines since 1992 so don't hesitate to ask for suggestions. This is the Arts District. The Art Center (designed by Eliel Saarinen, I. M. Pei and Richard Meier) is 2 blocks away in Greenwood Park. Salisbury House (one of America's Castles) is less than a mile. La Mie Bakery and The Cheese Shop are 6 blocks away in The Roosevelt Shops, near the Des Moines Playhouse. Ingersoll Ave. has groceries, galleries, coffee, restaurants, or pizza until 3 a.m. at Big Tomato. Chocolaterie Stam is a European treasure where you can get a Caffe Mocha, and Bauder's old school Soda Fountain is a true blast from the past. The bells from St. Augustin's ring hourly from 8 am to 9 pm. Art and music festivals, farmers market, the largest skate park in the country, and anything downtown is only a short drive. Bicycle and walking trails are nearby in Greenwood Park I-235 takes you East or West through the city. Bus stop is on the corner. There are ongoing projects throughout the 103 year old house, but none will take place in your space while you are there.
