Until just a few years ago, very few people — other than the local residents and families from the capital, San Jose — came to these beaches. By the end of the 1990s, when the 5-star resort at Punta Islita (15 kilometers north of San Miguel) opened with a small airport, visitors started noticing San Miguel. Activities include: Horse-back riding, surfing, swimming, watching wildlife in nearby estuaries, visiting the turtle conservation stations, hiking through the Jungle Butterfly Farm, and helicopter rides. Day trips one hour away include the beaches of Samara, Carrillo, and Nosara, and the town of SantaTeresa. ----------- Rates Cabin can be rented to 2 persons or 4 persons.
