Islas del Río Hostel and Restaurant is snuggled in the jungle paradise of Sarapiqui, right along the river. Our private rooms offer 4 beds, either 1 double and 3 twins, or 4 twins. Just let us know which you prefer. Our hostel was completely renovated in Nov 2014 and is a charming historic home which has been converted in the Aguas Bravas Rafting reception area and in the Islas del Rio Hostel, with 5 guest rooms for up to 25 people total. We offer private parking, free lockers for your valuables, a shared kitchen to prepare your own meals, and direct access to the Sarapiqui River where you can swim, or sign up for a rafting, safari float, or motor boat tour. Horseback, ziplines, nature hikes, chocolate tours and more are all just minutes away, and our guests receive very special pricing. We offer free wifi in the common areas, and if you are lucky you can catch a signal from your room. Our friendly staff is here to assist you from 8 am to 8 pm, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Keep in mind that Sarapiqui is not a luxury area, it is under developped, and not an over crowded tourist destination. This makes it a favorite for nature lovers, those who like authentic off the beaten path experiences, and quiet, pristine, undisturbed natural destinations. Great for birdwatching and wildlife sightings. Also a favorite among scientists, researchers, photographers, authors, and filmmakers due to the huge amount of biodiversity located in this magical area. Public bus is an option, go from San Jose through the Caribeños station. Make sure to request Puerto Viejo Sarapiqui, there is another Puerto Viejo on the Caribbean coast and buses depart from the same station. Ask for the route that goes through Vara Blanca, it is a little more windy and less direct, but it passes right in front of the hostel. Ask to get off at Islas del Rio or Aguas BRavas Rafting (same place). If you drive yourself, it is very easy, in this case do not go through the Vara Blanca route unless you will be visiting the Poas Volcano on the way. We also offer transportation service to or from San Jose when available for $30 or less per person, call us to check for availability. Tirimbina and the renowned Organization for Tropical Studies are located very close. Let us help you set up your visit.
