In 1955 motorists traveling up old U.S. Highway 191 trough St. Anthony were invited to have free coffee and donuts at any of the local cafes. The date was June 3, the day before the opening of fishing season in 1955. The St. Anthony Chamber of Commerce picked up the tab for that first-ever Free Fisherman's Breakfast. Today, visitors get a full breakfast of hot cakes with butter and syrup, sausage, hash browned potatoes, and beverages, still free. This is Memorial Day weekend.
