Welcome to J'Ouvert, a beautiful and private garden apartment, walking distance from historic San Fernando Hill. J’ouvert is located in the laid-back, residential community of Mon-Repos, which translates to “my rest”. It is conveniently close to the many amenities of San Fernando, but still well away from the noise and hustle of the city’s bustling thoroughfares. I will be delighted to assist with some local expertise and can provide recommendations on activity planning, day trips, and tours. Immerse yourself in the cosy delights of this quiet garden sanctuary minutes away from the heart of Trinidad’s vibrant second city. Just a five-minute drive from the commercial and culinary centre of downtown San Fernando, this spacious and comfortable one-bedroom apartment offers privacy and easy access to the city’s main tourist attractions, popular restaurants, and public transport. It can comfortably accommodate two persons and offers an escape from the stresses of city life. Designed with breezy Caribbean flair, each room is furnished with elegant colonial-style pieces, all hand-built by local craftsmen from indigenous tropical hardwood. The apartment is also equipped with many modern conveniences including full-sized appliances, a television, complimentary Wi-Fi, washer and dryer. In addition to the bedroom with its full-size bed, the apartment features a spacious living room and large-screen television, a fully-equipped kitchen/dining room which can also be used as an office space, large walk-in shower and access to a private garden. A great base from which to explore southern delights, the apartment is 10 to 15 minutes away from San Fernando Hill, Harris Promenade, SouthPark Mall, C3 Centre, and Gulf City Shopping Mall - which is known for its many bars and gourmet street food scene. It is also walking distance from supermarkets, bars, and fast-food restaurants. Toss on your walking shoes and explore San Fernando and its landmark San Fernando Hill (a site of significance to the original Amerindian inhabitants of these islands) or drive to the Pitch Lake at La Brea and be wowed by a wonder of the world or cool down with a dip at the Vessigny Beach Facility. If you are a connoisseur of comfort searching for a peaceful base from which to explore the delights of Southern Trinidad, this is it. I am committed to ensuring your stay is enjoyable, if I can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to let me know. San Fernando is located on the south-western coast of Trinidad, approximately 35 miles south of Port of Spain. The city, which overlooks the Gulf of Paria, is built around San Fernando Hill - called Naparima by the Amerindians who were the first settlers of the area. While much of the original hill has been quarried away, what remains is a national park with hiking trails and stunning views of the city and surrounding area. Named for Fernando (Ferdinand VII), San Fernando is the administrative and trading centre for southern Trinidad. Just outside of the city’s heart you can sample some of the island’s best East Indian cuisine, visit bubbling mud volcanoes or be wowed by the world’s most unique avian reserve. In San Fernando there are many options for buzzing nightlife and entertainment including Atherly's by the Park, a favourite of locals for bar games and cocktails; Naparima Bowl and the Southern Academy for the Performing Arts, for local cultural productions, as well as Club Next for urban music and dancing. For exploring the destination, a car is recommended as it is the most convenient option. If you do not want to drive, I can recommend a reliable ground transportation provider. There is also the option of the Public Transportation Service Corporation (PTSC) bus service (which is not necessarily timely), maxi taxis (private mini-buses) and hired cars (these number plates start with H). Two ferry services operate from Port of Spain, the inter-island ferry, which provides service to Tobago, as well as water taxis that travel to San Fernando. At TT$50, one way, the trip to Tobago lasts just over two hours and offers stunning views of Trinidad’s densely forested North Coast before docking in Scarborough, Tobago’s capital. The water taxi terminals are located at Flatrock, Lady Hailes Avenue in San Fernando and near the International Financial Centre (next to Femmes Du Chalet - a collective of local food vendors) in Port of Spain. The water taxis offer a great opportunity to see much of Trinidad’s west coast from an off-island perspective which includes stunning views of the Caroni Swamp, the Temple in the Sea and the silver towers of Point Lisas, an industrial complex.
