The vacation home Casa Colibrí is provided on FINCA PURA VIDA which is situated in the middle of lush mountains and rainforest in the idyllic valley of the Armado River. The nearest village, La Suiza, is approximately 1.5 km away – far enough to enjoy the peace and quiet of unspoilt nature but close enough to meet your daily requirements even without having to use the car. The ten hectare ground of Finca Pura Vida offers ample space to take walks, to sunbathe, to relax or to refresh in the river. Finca Pura Vida is a rare experience in what we now take for granted as lost in our harried world. It offers a time to take an in breath and truly experience serenity and peace. The natural wonder of flora and fauna are all around you. A river rushes past and often thunders a bit when extra rain occurs. Birds are in abundance - about 175 species – a birdwatchers paradise and it is up to you to discover them all. Casa Colibrí has a queen size bed in its own alcove, a small kitchen, and a lovely wood and tiled bathroom. The deck is magical and will call you most hours to just sit and read, write or just rest in the nature and river sounds that surround you. The walk into town is well worth it. You will see locals coming up to work and they are all kind and pleasant. After all this is pura vida. Still, a taxi is the more comfortable way in returning home with groceries. The town itself is small and contains three super markets, a fruit and vegetable store, butchers, bakeries, a farmacy and a doctor – in short, everything you need. The bank is down the street. The bus stop across from Pali will take you to Turrialba where you can connect with other buses to other parts including San José, Siquirres, Limón, Puerto Viejo etc. There is a lovely organic market on Friday and Saturday in Turrialba. Many tours are available and you will be able to study them in the white folder provided. Enjoy your stay and listen to the river. Good starting point for ACTIVITIES: Explore the beauty of Finca Pura Vida by foot and enjoy spectacular views all around. There are so many paths to take – you will discover something new every day. Birdwatchers feel like in heaven. It's a wonderful spot. Almost 200 species can be seen. I can send you a list. Rafting: Costa Rica is well-known for its excellent rafting facilities. The rivers Pacuare and Reventazon – both close to Finca Pura Vida – rank among the top ten rafting rivers in the world. Volcano-tours: You should visit the volcanos Turrialba and Irazu which you can see from the finca. The Turrialba is active since a few yours so you should get information at the park-administration if the access is permitted. National Park Tapantí: Tapantí is located a few kilometers south of the Orosi Valley. Walking In the park you have the oportunity to see abundant tropical rain forest and with a bit luck some wildlife. Furthermore, you can have fun canyoning, you can go on guided walks or mountain bike trips or you can enjoy a day on the back of a horse. For a real adventure, try Canopy! It’s an exciting and novel way of seeing the rainforest. Hooked to a steel wire rope, you will fly from treetop to treetop and experience the rainforest from a bird’s eye view. If you have no head for heights, however, you better stay on the ground. Guayabo National Monument If you are interested in Costa Rican culture, go to see the Guayabo National Monument. At the foot of Turrialba volcano, approximately 20 km North East of Turrialba town, there is a archeological excavation site showing a pre-columbian settlement. From Fica Pura Vida, take a day trip to the biggest National Forest in Costa Rica, to Parque Internacional de la Amistad. Here you will find Costa Rica’s highest mountain, Chirripo, and some aboriginal people reserves. The property is very close to La Suiza, approximately 1.5 km. So it is close enough to meet your daily requirements even without having to use the car. Also there is good bus conection to San José and to the carrebean coast. If you want to see some highlights in the region like volcanos, Tapantí and Guayabo for example and don't have much time it is better to have a car. If you are going to rent one you should take a four-wheel-drive. The roads in Costa Rica are quite poor, so is the road from La Suiza to the Finca. It's a dirt road which is quite dificult to manage with a normal car.
