Chepstow Beach Cottage, our corner of paradise on the eastern edge of Canada's smallest Maritime province, is where you'll want to spend an idyllic, tranquil beach summer holiday. Our seasonal cottage sits on a secluded cove with a panoramic view of the tidal Northumberland Strait, home to lobster, deep-sea and bluefin tuna fishermen, seabirds, seals, hummingbirds, a resident bald eagle and the occasional dolphins and whales. Watch the Souris-Magdalen Islands ferry glide by twice a day; catch glimpses of Nova Scotia's beautiful Cape Breton across the water; watch dramatic sunrises and sunsets from your deck or screen porch; gaze at the moon and star-packed sky at night, especially when sitting by your beach fire. Stroll our beach, seaglass-hunting; enjoy a swim or float in the refreshing water; kayak the cove (BYOK or rent one in the town of Souris); or simply relax and soak up the sun. It's a photographer's paradise. Offering 3 generous bedrooms, Beach Cottage is fully equipped for as much housekeeping as you feel like doing. In 2018, you'll be the first to experience updates and additions to the cottage: a new deck, new screen porch, enlarged bedrooms, an enlarged main bathroom containing a new washer/dryer unit, a new full second bathroom (both bathrooms with showers), and an enlarged, updated kitchen/dining room with a dishwasher added. (NOTE: present photos on this site will be updated in early June 2018, but the locale is of course the same, and the cottage's interior charm and amenities will simply be better, blending new and older). All kitchen utensils, dishes, cutlery and pots and pans are supplied, as are a BBQ, bed linens, towels and bathroom supplies. Electricity powers the stove and refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave oven, coffee maker, kettle, ceiling fans and baseboard heaters. There's a landline telephone, and free Wi-Fi powers high-speed internet and cell/Smartphones. Satellite TV offers plenty of channels in English and French. If you really want to take a holiday from tech, there is a generous supply of board games to choose from. No need to wander far. Souris (pop.1,200) boasts two large grocery stores, a small mall, a bank and a credit union,a post office, two pharmacies and several restaurants ranging from fast food to gourmet dining. Shop for arts and crafts in the restored Souris Lighthouse, on the main street and at the Souris Beach Gateway Boardwalk (lobster always on the menu!). Fresh-caught seafood is readily available. Weekly ceilidhs (cay-lees) in the area will acquaint you with the rich local fiddling tradition and even allow you to kick up your heels. Keen to explore? Follow the (only) highway east to miles/kilometres of "singing sands" beaches to walk, lighthouses to explore, and North Lake where you can charter deep-sea, and from late August through October, bluefin tuna fishing expeditions (catch-and-release only). Bike the Confederation Trail, which begins near Souris and covers the Island "tip-to-tip". Venture 25K. west to mussel-growing St. Peter's Bay, and magnificent Greenwich National Park with its sand dunes, river walks, and access to the endless beaches of the Gulf of St. Laurence coast. Capitol city Charlottetown, and world-famous Green Gables, are a short drive to the west and north. We're always nearby to help make your holiday the best you've ever had.
