We're on a bit of a hill on the outskirts of Orono. The space is a remodeled and expanded former garage which the locals called a barn. It has an upstairs sleeping loft, a bathroom with a shower, a hot plate and a refrigerator, and a main, large room downstairs. One can walk to downtown in less than 20 minutes where we have at least 5 restaurants. There are hiking possibilities without driving anywhere. The University of Maine is our chief attraction but we have sporting opportunities, too The unit is a recently renovated and expanded garage which now has a large open room downstairs that we use for art projects and yoga when guests are not present. A cot could be set up downstairs for a third guest if desired. Upstairs is a sleeping loft. We tend toward minimalism, but can configure the space with extra furniture if desired. We can also provide art stations and supplies. The upstairs loft sleeps two comfortably. The unit shares part of a wall with the main house, separated by a locked door. Guests don’t have to see us unless they want to meet. We have a dog and two cats, though they don’t enter the unit. We clean thoroughly between guests with clean sheets and towels. Life is too short to iron the sheets, but Émilia up the road does do that. Pets are fine, but we charge a $25 cleaning fee after pet stays to adequately remove their hair, though probably not perfectly. People with pet allergies might want pet free units that are available elsewhere in Orono. We are « naturalizing » the grounds with roses and wildflowers. Feel free to roam about and occupy the porch (shared with us), though it’s cold in winter. **New additions: a dog friendly backyard fence (please watch your dog and pick up after them; plus new water pressure! Finally! Enjoy.... Entrance is private and the entire separate space is available. The porch behind the house is also available on which to sit and relax. We are pet friendly, but have found that we must do extra cleaning after their stay, so we are charging a $25 pet cleaning fee that gets billed through Airbnb after the stay. Sometimes we are out of town and we have a person available in those circumstances to answer local needs. We're on the main street of the town but behind the house is a watershed so there are no neighbors to the north and east of the house. There are three small waterfalls in the creek. It's a bit of a steep walk to the creek, but easy if one is in shape. There's nice hiking around an old, abandoned quarry on the other side of the creek with easier access from a road just past the creek (where trucks used to enter but don't anymore). We can accommodate two vehicles and there's a spa just up the street that is open to a third vehicle with advanced notice. We're on a bus line to Bangor and to the University and Uber is reliable (though Uber's GPS sends them to 292 Main St., so you have to tell them it's the red house at 288 and not 292). Two rivers join in our town and the kayaking is good. There's plenty of places to put in a kayak. We hope to eventually have a small kayak for people to use, but that hasn't happened yet. We've learned from our first guest that GPS does not always work in Maine. Basically, we are a one main street town (Main Street). The houses by us are numbered sequentially from (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) . We are the only red house in that region and the driveway is after a yellow diamond sign that says "Trucks Entering." (They aren't). Sometimes the snow covers the house numbers, but we are the only red house on a bit of a hill.
