This apartment was designed for aging-in-place. The doors and bathroom are wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs and walkers and there are no stairs to or in the apartment. The shower has a built-in grab bar and bench for transfers. Please note that the apartment is not fully wheelchair accessible: the kitchen has standard counter heights and appliances, and the shower is not roll-in. You are welcome to park on our driveway, or we can obtain a visitor's permit for street parking. There is a washer and dryer unit on site. Cleaning during your stay is available for a small charge, if you want. The apartment is independent of the main house. You will have use of the full kitchen, bathroom and living space. Washer and dryer are for the apartment but are in a shared space. One of us is typically home during the day and available if you need anything. We are excited to host you and orient you to the area. With your own entrance and amenities, you will be free to come and go as you please. We live in a charming residential neighborhood at the very edge of downtown Bethesda, an area known for its easy DC access, restaurants and shopping. Bethesda is a thriving community that is home to families from around the globe. There is a robust Farmer's market on the weekends, and there are many locally owned businesses, art galleries, bakeries and restaurants. A short walk will take you to cuisines from around the world - Indian, Ethiopian, French, Cajun, Mexican, Eritrean, Italian, Lebanese, Greek, Korean, Thai, Chinese, Japanese and more! We support locally owned businesses and will happily help you discover the richness of all Bethesda has to offer. Within a 5-block radius, you will find the grocery store, CVS pharmacy, top restaurants, bars, jazz clubs, and more. A 15-20-minute walk (or the free Bethesda Circulator), will take you to downtown Bethesda - perfect for shopping, movies and fine dining. We are a 15-minute walk to two metro stations (both red line), NIH, and Walter Reed/Navy Medical Center and a 20-minute subway ride to downtown DC. For get-aways and farther commutes, we are conveniently located just inside the 495-beltway and I-270. A 45-minute drive will take you to historic towns like Alexandria, Frederick, Annapolis and the Chesapeake Bay, and Sandy Springs, heart of the Underground Railroad.
