The Barn by Swan Island: Whimsical, Comfy, & Fun!

Welcome to the place we call "The Barn by Swan Island." Located in Richmond, ME, just a short distance from the free boat launch to Swan Island in the Kennebec River. Originally built in the mid 1800's as an attached barn to our lovely Victorian home, we have completely renovated and remade the space into a fun, comfy, and whimsical AirBnB experience. An ideal location for a trip to Midcoast Maine! Nearly all of the decor and artwork is handcrafted in the true spirit of "re-use and recycle." Save the boring for the hotels and motels! We love creating new from old - old barnwood, antique doors, and flea market finds are the raw materials we use to create a truly unique AirBnB experience. Enter through a small porch/mudroom into the open living area where you will find comfy seating, smart TV, kitchen, eating space and laundry closet. Walk up our beautiful reclaimed spiral staircase to the loft with a queen-sized bed, bathroom and sitting area. The couch in the bedroom loft, opens to a full-sized pullout sleeper sofa if needed. Let us know if you want us to set up the extra pullout bed before you arrive (extra charge may apply). For your comfort, we have recently installed a new heat pump for warm and cozy heat in the winter and cool air conditioning in the summer months. Space is most appropriate for two adults. The additional, small (full-sized) pullout sofa (located in the same room as the queen-sized bed) may be available for an additional fee. Guests will have private access to the apartment. We are on a beautiful 3 acre wooded lot, and less than a 5 minute walk to the Town of Richmond, Kennebec River and the Swan Island boat launch. We live in the main house on the property, and are always available to answer your questions and to help make your trip a great experience. Richmond, ME is a great small town in midcoast Maine, with just the right combination of small town shops and eateries. Just a few minutes walk from our front door, is the beautiful Richmond waterfront park along the Kennebec River, which has a free public boat launch. Free ferry service to Swan Island four times per day (May-Oct) is also leaves from the waterfront. Swan Island, at the head of Merrymeeting Bay, welcomes hikers, campers, birders and explorers to its shores for an unforgettable Maine experience. Board the ferry for the five-minute ride across the Kennebec River to your remote getaway Swan Island welcomes hikers, campers, birders, anglers, wildlife watchers and explorers. An Island in Time, Swan Island is located in the Kennebec River in Richmond, just 20 minutes south of Augusta and 45 minutes north of Portland. There are nesting bald eagles, deer and waterfowl; 5 historic homes dating back to the 1700s; hiking, camping, canoe rentals and various events. The island is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and offers gorgeous scenery and great photo opportunities. Visitors may visit using canoes or kayaks or reserve a ferry ride. They can even bring a mountain bike to ride the island's 4-mile dirt road.
