Dragonfly House

A 5-minute walk from miles of beach, Dragonfly House is a recently renovated house on 30 acres in rural Tlell. On the way to the beach, coffee, tea, ice cream, brunch, groceries and more can be found at the Crow's Nest Cafe and Store. Tlell is centrally-located on Haida Gwaii, facilitating adventures north and south throughout the islands. Owners Lynn Lee and Leandre Vigneault live at the bottom of the hill in one of two other homes on the property. Enjoy our recently renovated 2 story wood framed house. The kitchen is fully-equipped with propane stove, fridge, microwave, toaster, electric kettle, coffee press, teapot, and cooking utensils. A propane BBQ is located on the outdoor deck. Basic cooking supplies are available including excellent coffee and teas from a local shop, sugar, white and whole wheat flours, spices, cooking and olive oil. A loaf of homemade bread, butter and a dozen farm fresh eggs from our chickens will greet you! The guesthouse has a master bedroom with queen-sized bed, a bedroom with two single beds, bed room with a queen-sized bed and a bedroom with a double bed. The two couches in the living room can be converted to double-beds. There are two bathrooms on the second floor both have tiled showers and a 2 piece powder room on the main floor. The living/dining room has a pine ceiling, laminate flooring, and comfy couches that call to you to curl up with a good book or to watch a DVD movie. A dining table, chairs for eight, and an eclectic selection of books, CDs and DVDs are available for your entertainment in absence of television reception. Some puzzles and toys are there to engage young guests. A washer and dryer are available for use in the front porch with laundry detergent provided. A small chest freezer can be plugged in for use as needed. Guesthouse heating is provided by an air source heat pump with a wood stove as an option for cold winter days . Guests rent the entire house and have access to all parts of the house including use of the covered deck, laundry facilities, yard and parking spot. The guesthouse is located within 100 m of the owners house and 15 m of a second guest house on the property. Owners live in the barn-like at the bottom of the driveway hill and guests are welcome to come by or call with questions or needs. A list of contact phone numbers is provided. The guesthouse is located within a 5-minute walk of miles of beach. A small country store and cafe is located on the property just off the highway. Several small art shops and a restaurant are located within a 10-minute drive along the highway. World-class salmon fishing in late summer and fall in the Tlell River and several excellent wilderness trail hikes are within a 10-minute drive. Most people travel by car because no public transit is available on the islands. Some limited taxi service is available in Skidegate/Queen Charlotte, within Sandspit, and Old Masset/Masset. For those who have the time, Haida Gwaii is friendly for cycling - remember to bring your wet weather gear in case of rain! The drive to Old Masset and Masset takes ~1 hour with an additional 30-minute drive to North Beach/Tow Hill. Port Clements is ~20 minutes along the highway on the way from Tlell to Masset. Heading south, Skidegate is an ~30-minute drive, with an additional 10-minutes to reach Queen Charlotte. Sandspit can be reached travelling on BC Ferries from Skidegate Landing (between Skidegate and Queen Charlotte) to Alliford Bay (~25 minute ferry ride), with an additional 15-minute drive to town. Rennell Sound on the west coast and Yakoun Lake can be accessed by logging road from Queen Charlotte. The Yakoun and Mamin Rivers can be accessed by logging road from Port Clements. Grey Bay, Skidegate Lake and Moresby Camp can be accessed by logging roads from Sandspit or Alliford Bay. All access on logging roads require an appropriate vehicle and checking in with the forest companies which may be actively logging.
