The medium size town of Hojancha has not been touched by the uncontrolled development. It is the main town of the canton which carries the same name and means “large leave” and comes from a local tree largely found in that area. The canton of Hojancha is known for its continuous fight against smog. This is the only province that was rewarded the “ecological blue flag” for its cleanness and its on going efforts to protect the natural resources.
