Cozy Creative Retreat in Converted 1856 Church
Old farmhouse beams and original 19th century church construction meet a Scandinavian modernist interior for an unforgettable and unique space. The Taghkanic Center Church was built in 1856 as a one room Lutheran Church. It was recently repurposed as a modern getaway, a perfect place to escape the city life and finish that screenplay, record your next album, or pen some poetry. The Church is equipped with all the necessary amenities to get your relax on. It has large custom daybeds, organic bath products, a wood burning stove, and work space to create. For entertainment, it boasts a projector with enormous screen area, access to Netflix, Hulu, & Amazon Prime via AppleTV, HDMI input for any game console, speakers, bluetooth receiver, and turntable. You can cook all your meals in its fully equipped kitchen with sharp knives and full size gas stove. The entire church! We live in New York City, but will be available by text or phone. We have help locally if there are any urgent needs. It's a rural area. The Lake Taghkanic state park is only about 10 min away, and Bash Bish falls is 20-30. Both are very beautiful places. While Hudson is a popular destination, we recommend driving through Ghent: Art Omi is a beautiful arts center, and Bartlett House has perhaps the best brunch in the Hudson Valley. The Church Hudson is about 20 minutes outside of Hudson. Driving is the best way, but its also possible to take a train. If you're coming from NYC, you can take the Amtrak to the Hudson stop and take an Uber or Lyft (~$30-40). Car shares up here can be sparse depending on when you arrive, we recommend scheduling one in advance (you can do it in the Uber / Lyft apps!) The church was built in 1856. While it's been renovated, it still retains some of the charm of an old upstate farm house. Things are old, floors creak, and despite our best efforts there might be a few bugs. Also (especially for those who are interested in bringing their well-behaved pets) please note that the church, while beautiful, sits near the road. It's definitely rural, but not on a large plot of private land. There is heat, but no air conditioning. This is generally not an issue upstate because it's fairly cool except for maybe the hottest days of the summer. We do have plenty of fans, and large doors to let the breeze come in. We love our neighbors who live up here to enjoy the peace and beauty of the Hudson Valley. Please respect them by not walking on their property and by keeping noise to a minimum after 10pm.
