Cozy Tipi Retreat at Nwyfre Farm

Looking for an out-of-the-ordinary camping experience? Try camping in an American-Indian style Tipi. Sit around the campfire enjoying clear, starry nights and cool mountain air that you only get from camping out. We are situated on 13 secluded acres geographically centered in Vermont, well off the beaten path by choice. Located away from "quick" conveniences. The property has a nice, relaxing atmosphere with plenty of outdoor spaces to enjoy, remote countryside to explore and beautiful views. Nwyfre' Farm is a place to unplug. To rest, reflect, regenerate and expand. The tipi is perfect for couples, solo travelers, writer/artist retreats or those just looking for a quiet get-away from the hustle and bustle of a busy life. The tipi is nestled in a secluded place on the farm but close enough to the main residence if you need anything. It comfortably sleeps 2 adults on a full size bed dressed with linens, pillows and comforter. Bath towels are available upon request. Complimentary tea/coffee are provided along with clean well water free of chlorine and fluoride. Inside, the tipi is equipped with a Camp Chef cook stove/oven combo for cooking meals and a fully equipped kitchette with everything you need to prepare a meal (serving utensils, sauce pans and cast iron cookware, flatware, mugs and drinking glasses along with provisions for cleaning up after yourself). Paper plates, bowels, napkins and paper towels are provided to keep it simple. A wood burning stove, camp propane heater including fuel and wood are provided to warm the tipi during late fall, winter and early spring (October thru April). Fuel fees are included in the cost of the stay during these months. Outside the tipi is a picnic table, adirondak chairs, fire pit with grate for cooking over the fire provides additional space to complete the campsite. Firewood is supplied. Please do NOT bring your own wood as to not transport unwanted freeloaders into the area. There is a private bath house with a chemical camping toilet and an on-call propane heated shower from late spring (May) until freezing temps arrive-usually mid to end of October. A composting toilet is provided during freezing months. Weather is important as you are camping out and the tipi is basically a tent. Dealing with the elements will be part of your stay. Mother nature has a mind of her own. Wood stove and propane heater gives off radiant heat but still dress according to the weather conditions. Summer camping: May thru August is typical summer weather. Bring bug spray as black flies in May and deer flies in June along with the no see’ums and mosquitoes will have you looking for it. Summer rain showers and occasional thunder storm are to be expected. Mother natures way of freshening things up and washing away the pollen. Autumn Camping: September through November are transitional months as well as March through early May. When trees are defoliated in the fall when the leaves are dropping and spring just before they begin to bud, the locals call this “stick season”. September is glorious with brilliant fall colors, warm days and pleasantly cool nights. October has temperatures that fluctuate from glorious warm days in the 60s to rainy and cold in the low 50s. Night time temps range from high 40s to high 20s. A dusting of snow is not uncommon in the higher elevations - 1500 feet and higher. We are located at 1700 feet. November, come prepared for colder temps all around and a better chance of snow. Winter Camping: For those daring souls who like winter camping, December to late March has snow accumulating to 3 to 5 feet with temps and wind chills that can go into the negative digits. Snow shoe from our property. Cross country skiing on allowed trails. Downhill skiing, cross country skiing and snow shoeing on groomed trails within a 30 to 60 minute drive from our farm. Spring Camping: Spring being a transitional season can have weather that swings one day with freezing rain, sleet or snow followed by warm, sunny days and then turning rainy and cold the next. It’s a battle with old man winter loosing his grip. AWD/4WD is a must during winter and necessary November through early April.. Cell signal is a hit or miss. It depends on your service provider. There is no WiFi. Well behaved pets are welcome with prior approval. Sage, our resident dog, is steward to the farm and also farm ambassador. Loves people, great with kids. Friendly and sociable with most dogs but he will not tolerate intact male dogs. Especially those who have pushy, dominating personalities. We are within 30 minutes to grocery stores, gas station and restaurants. Miles of country roads for biking or taking a stroll. Food and trash is carry in carry out due to predators in the area-you are in their world! We do not charge a cleaning fee to keep costs down. However, if a mess is left behind; dirty dishes, dirty stove and excessive dirt and trash, we will charge a $35.00 cleaning fee. Our time is flexible and can work around the needs of our guests. We are well off the beaten path and are located in a remote area. Keep this in mind if you are wanting to go out to dinner or wanting to shop. The neighborhood consists of large parcels of land, seasonal homes, hunting camps and some parcels under land trusts. Most of us live a quiet, low key lifestyle. There are miles of dirt roads for biking and trails for country strolls. Brookfield is known for its Floating Bridge. A car is the best way to travel around as we are remotely located. We are 1.8 miles from VT SR 14 and about 15 miles from I-89. Brookfield is geographically centered in the state and a 3 hour drive to Boston and Montreal. 20 minutes to Randolph, 40 minutes to Montpelier, 25 minutes to Northfield and 1 hour from Stowe, Killington and Waitsfield. We live on a rural dirt road, AWD and FWD are recommended from November thru March. The closest airport is BTV in Burlington, Vt. where you can rent a car. Buses and trains from Boston, Ma., NYC or Montreal, Quebec arrive into White River Jct. or Lebanon, NH where you can also rent a car. 1) During the months of October through March, your booking price includes a fee for heating fuel. 2) We live on a steep, winding, mountainous dirt road, All Wheel Drive (AWD) and Four Wheel Drive (4WD) are necessary from November thru late April. Front wheel/two wheel driven cars and AWD/4WD vehicles with bald summer tires will NOT make it here. Late March through late April is known as "Mud Season". Snow is melting and dirt roads are muddy and sloppy. 3) We no longer accept early or late check-in requests due to excessive disregard for adhering to requested check-in times.
