Stone School Cottage

Romantic getaway or family vacation. Charming stone building served as a one-room schoolhouse from 1832 until 1950. Beautifully situated amidst horse farms on the scenic road to Mt Greylock, centrally located midway between Williamstown and Lenox. We host lots of writers and musicians who love the bright airy space, families that have fun in this big playhouse, and couples seeking a memorable and private retreat. PLEASE NOTE: this truly-unique building has an unusual layout, described below. Traditional furniture and wall/floor treatments (including stone walls, slate blackboards, hardwood floors and rugs) give the large spaces a surprisingly warm and comfortable feel. On the first floor is the original one-room schoolhouse classroom with original blackboards and some antique school desks and a trundle bed (containing two twin mattresses), and the bathroom (with a stall shower). The second floor is a large loft space (like a studio apartment) with a queen bed and a daybed (twin mattress), and three floor mattresses for children and a porta crib, as well as a sitting area, a dining area, and a small kitchen. Please note that there is no bathroom on the second floor. For privacy, doors enclose both the loft space and the classroom. There is a closet for hanging clothes on the second floor, but there is no closet in the classroom downstairs. Lots of books and interesting old toys to enjoy! We recently upgraded the air conditioning with new units on both floors. Whole building is yours. Guest interaction: As much or as little as guests want. If you need anything, we live next door. On the scenic road to Mt Greylock, awalking distance to the visitors center. Quiet, except for sounds of nature - birds, occasionally cows, horses or coyotes. typical of 19th century school horses, the building is near the road, but there isn't much traffic. The farm next door now has a few alpacas and miniture horses in additonal to the usual horses. NO EXTRA CHARGE FOR CHILDREN (To avoid being charged, do not included children in the count of guests. Please describe your party in your message to us.) TV includes live streaming cable stations along with Netflix, Hulu, and access to yourn Amazon account. Keurig coffee maker stocked with a variety of coffee choices. We live next door and are available to provide anything you need.
