Come stay on a working coffee farm and hummingbird research station! We have 20 feeders and over 1000 wild hummingbirds! Come enjoy the numerous hummingbirds and learn about how coffee is grown! We run a shade-grown coffee farm that has a lot of nature too! We have 20 hummingbird feeders and you will have private access to over 500 hummingbirds of at least 15 species! The birds are very tame and come very close to you if you stand quietly on the balcony. The photo opportunities are endless, especially because of the diversity of natural backgrounds! We also place out bananas and other fruits to attract tanagers and other tropical birds. We have 4 bedrooms available and each bed comes with a mosquito net in case you are particularly tasty. On the 2nd floor, with the wrap around balcony, there are two bedrooms each one with a full bed, and a shared bathroom. On the 1st floor there are 2 bedrooms, one with a full bed, and another one with 2 single beds, plus a shared bathroom. The bathroom showers are the only places with hot water. Guests are welcome to use the kitchen, washing machine (cold water only), and living rooms (with dinner tables and couches) on both the 1st and 2nd floors. Most inviting is to wander the gardens, enjoy the treetop view from the balconies, or relax in the hammocks! I will help coordinate your visit from afar. Get a chance to observe science in action as various biologists pass through doing research on hummingbirds. Lucero and Mary (family of farm caretakers who live in a house down the hill) are always available to deal with any needs (Spanish only). We are happy to provide meals (3 meals per day for $15 USD) since it's hard to get back and forth from Fusa (20 mins away) with groceries. Parmenio would be happy to teach you about growing and processing coffee (in spanish)! Adolfo will be happy to give you a tour of our native plants and flowers for hummingbirds! Vereda Tierra Negra is a valley of coffee and dairy farms, interspersed with patches of forest. Come experience the rural life in Colombia! Your coffee, eggs, milk, fruits, veggies and more have only traveled 50m from farm to table! We are located down the valley towards the end of a dead-end road (almost no traffic), on a steep hillside (gorgeous view). Our neighbor Don Cesar (across the stream) runs a small store that sells the basics (beer, soda, milk, snacks, etc.) and where people also socialize. We also sell (to go) coffee and eggs fresh from our farm. We are located between Sibate and Fusagasuga, along the old San Miguel highway. If driving, you should arrive in a 4 wheel drive vehicle to go down the hill. There is parking at the top of the hill if you want to leave your vehicle and walk (we could also find someone to drive you if you need it). You can also take a local bus from Sibate (40 min) or Fusa (10 min) and walk ~20 min downhill (steep dirt and paved road) to our farm. If you need a ride from the Bogota airport (or nearby), our neighbor Don Cesar can pick you up for $50 USD. We have 4 small dogs who "rule" the finca. We will try to have them out of the way for your visit. Down the hill, the family who takes care of the farm and runs the coffee crop has 2 granddaughters, Liseth and Melanie, who love to visit. Rural life starts early and with sunrise (~5:30am) comes roosters calling, hummingbirds fighting, birds singing and dogs barking!
