Tiny-house on a hill-top in the Flemish Ardennes

On our farm we converted a barn to an ecologically comfortable "tiny-house" with all amenities, such as kitchen, bathroom with toilet and shower. Three large windows and 2 roof-windows get sunlight in the room all day long. There is a covered terrace with views of our garden and orchard. A few other terraces are spread over the garden and orchard. It is a very quiet and beautifully located place, ideal for 1 or 2 persons. It is corona safe because the tiny-house is separated from the main house The tiny-house was formerly an old barn (dated 1788) which we turned into a guesthouse with respect to the old structure and special features. The place has been renovated and insulated with ecological materials. It is located in the middle of our garden of 1 hectare, on top of a hill of the Flemish Ardennes, over-viewing the small village of Munkzwalm. The bathroom with toilet, sink and shower is separated from the living room with a sliding door. All together, the space is only 40 m2 but very comfortable for 1 or 2 persons. Adjacent to the tiny-house is a covered terrace, and 20 meters further an open terrace to watch the sunset or to have a campfire. A pick-nick table stands in the orchard (40 fruit trees) where you can freely walk around and serve yourself of fruits according to the season: nuts, cherries, pears, plums, apples and quivers. The place breaths peace and serenity. House regulations: Smoking strictly not allowed. Pets not allowed Other practical info: Breakfast is not served, but coffee and tea are available free of charge; Water kettle is available. The sofa is a bed for 1 person, but can easily be pulled out to make a very comfortable double bed (see pictures) with good quality mattresses. So far, all our guests said that they slept very well! One can sleep in complete darkness: the darkening curtains of the roof windows are operated by remote control; and the 3 windows have blackout curtains. Sheets and blankets are available; Also towels for bathroom and kitchen; The small fridge is noiseless; Hair dryer and plenty of cooking utensils (pots and pans) are available; WiFi is available; Hiking maps and information leaflets about the interesting area are provided; Parking-space for a car is next to the tiny-house; Bicycles can be safely stalled in the garage next to the tiny-house. You, our guests, have (of course) access to the room, and access to the garage for stalling bicycles. You can freely walk, jog or take sunbaths in the garden and orchard. Due to its location and the vegetation there is a lot of privacy at the tiny house which is stand-alone and thus separated from the main house. You have your own space and garden. You can use the chairs and tables on the terraces, in the garden and in the orchard, and put them where you want (in the sun or shade). We, the host, live in the main farmhouse at 30 meters from the Tiny-house and we respect fully the privacy of our guests. There is almost always someone at home in the main farmhouse, and thus our guests are welcome to knock our door for info or for whatever reason. All the guests we had until now came for resting, walking or cycling. There are some historical points of interest to visit such as the Gallo-Roman museum of Velzeke (Zottegem), the Roman Heirweg (now called Paddestraat), the Zwalm Water Mill, and other watermills of the Zwalm River. There are some very steep slopes for the cyclists (Berendries, Molenberg, Koppenberg, Kwaremont, Muur van Geraardsbergen, etc.). A few restaurants and several typical Flemish cafes are within walking distance. Our house is located along a network of small paved trails and biking tracks. All well indicated on wooded signs placed at crossings of streets and tracks. Two of these tracks pass our doorstep: the Waterkersgracht Route and the Biking Route of East Flanders Tourisme Department. Maps with the walking tracks are available. It is a mere 5-minute walk (downhill, to the Zwalm River) to the Taverne/Restaurant Zwalmmolen, and the information center of Flemish Ardennes; It is 10 minutes walk (passing over a beautiful narrow bridge over the Zwalm River) to a shopping center (foodstore, shoes, clothing, souvenirs (LOODS, recommended shop), and the center of the village of Munkzwalm where bakery, butcher, post office, bank, pharmacy, medical center, etc. can be found; open-door sport facilities are available near the railstation. It is a 15 minutes walk to the Munkzwalm train Station (frequent trains directly to Zottegem, Denderleeuw, Brussels, Audenaarde and Kortrijk). For Ghent, Bruges and the coast (Oostende) a stop-over in Zottegem is needed. The tiny-house is located in the middle of the large garden of the owners. To find the house for the first time it is always a bit of a nice adventure. IMPORTANT: If you indicate the address on your GPS (Krekelstraat 5 in Munkzwalm), you actually are directed to the main farm-house (where the owners live) but the tiny-house (where you will stay) has its own private entrance and to reach that you need to drive a few 100 meters extra. Thus, after the GPS says "destination reached" you should continue driving on the cement road uphill for 100 meters and then turn left; that road (with at your left a green hedge) is called Ter Bergekouter. Drive on that road for 200 meters and you will see at your left the entrance to the garden and the tiny-house. The gate remains ALWAYS open, day and night.
