The Characteristic Tower - One bedroom Apartment (40 m2) takes its name from it’s particular architectural structure as it is built like a square tower on two floors. On the ground floor you have private entrance, kitchen and bathroom. Large and bright staircase takes you to the upper floor bedroom with king size bed. Upon request it is possible to add extra bed for a child. Álafoss is located in Mosfellsbær, only 15 km from the City centre of Reykjavik. Perfectly located for guests seeking the tranquility and nature at the doorsteps of Reykjavik and being on the route of the Golden Circle. Álafoss played a major role in the wool industry in Iceland starting in 1896 and still producing wool under the name Istex . The wool factory was both economically and socially important as workers came from all over Iceland to work and that created a colourful community with dances, indoor swimming pool and outdoor theatre. Now the old factory buildings are occupied by the Álafoss wool factory store, restaurant, Sundlaugin (swimming pool) which was converted to a Recording Studio by the well known band Sigur Rós, artists- and crafts studios. Álafoss Apartments building is connected over the river Varmá to Sundlaugin recording studio. Green area surrounds Álafoss with vast selection of walking paths making it a good location to relax and get in touch with nature.
