The Bothy is on a working farm and equestrian centre on edge of 'The Little Red town' of Kirriemuir, gateway to the Angus Glens in the east of Scotland. The Bothy has a simple, modern feel with an integrated kitchen and living area, wood burning stove (with real wood), TV, stereo, etc. Downstairs in the living area it has a very comfy double bed settee and lots of soft furnishings. We want you to be very comfortable. Upstairs we have a compact mezzanine area with a fabulous Kingsize bed. In total the accommodation sleeps 2 but can accommodate up to 4. We would like to bring to your attention that the stairs are steep and may not be suitable for children or people with mobility issues. The Whole house is centrally heated but also has the added benefit of a wood burning stove. Cooking is by gas and the shower is fantastic and an ideal pressure which has been complimented on many times. Guests will be given their own key and can come and go as they wish. The farm is open access to all and we enjoy the public walking their dogs or just wandering round our tracks. The Bothy is on the edge of the farm therefore if you are not "horsey" then you are a distance away from the stables. Ours is a working yard so "horsey" activities are going on all the time. Access to the town centre is approx. five minutes (Doon the brae and up the other side) We have lots of nice pubs and tearooms and Ice cream shops in the town centre. Great wee local called the Kerymor Tavern (The hole in the wa') is just down the road from the farm - three minutes away. We have a bus stop right at our door so Forfar and Dundee are no distance away. There's lots of bonny areas around the farm to sit outside. We will try to meet and greet u on your pre arranged arrival time. However if this is not possible we will leave the keys in a secure place for you. Once we pass over the keys, we will leave you to your own devices and not interfere unless u wish our input! We are always happy to help guests in the right direction. Any specific needs can be sorted as long as we know in advance and as long as they are within our power to do. Parting of the Red Sea is getting tricky otherwise we do our best. Our staff are friendly, efficient and (if horsey) qualified to relevant ABRS standards. If you are considering a horsey holiday that's great but please have a chat with us prior to booking and receive 20% off as guests. We run a very busy yard and ask that any bookings from our visitors be made in advance where-ever possible. We are a family firm with lots of bairns and animals going about (sometimes hard to separate) Please don't feed any of them for the simple reason, you'll never get rid of them. We are dog friendly but your dog has to be friendly too or at least kept on a lead. Happy to have them but please respect our rules (see below). Kirriemuir is a fantastic little rural town and is nicknamed the gateway to the glens due to the towns fantastic location on the fringes of Glen Clova, Glen Doll, Glen Esk, Glen Isla and Glen Prosen which is fantastic for country walks and country pubs. Kirriemuir is also nicknamed "The Wee Red Toon" due to the town being built predominantly from red sand stone, giving it a beautiful, original look! The town itself is a 5 minute walk away from "The Bothy". You can visit the local pubs within the town and the many cafes and wee shops. Kirriemuir also has the famous Visocchis ice cream shop and the star rock shop which are both worth a visit and a bit of indulgence....your on holiday after all!!! The Kirrie folk are friendly and welcome visitors to the town. Kirriemuir folk make the most of their claims to fame by hosting Bonfest weekend which celebrates Kirriemuir being the birthplace of Bon Scott rock legend from ACDC. A statue which was unveiled in 2016 stands proudly in the town. Kirriemuir is also famous for being the birthplace of JM Barrie author of Peter Pan. The Peter Pan statue is also positioned in the centre of the town and his birthplace is open seasonally. The stunning Glamis Castle is a mere 6 miles away and regularly holds open days and events. the near by town of Forfar can be reached within 6 miles, Dundee is the closest city and can be reached in 18 miles. St Andrews (home of golf and worth a visit) is 32 miles away. Buses are available every hour to Forfar and Dundee from right outside "The Bothy". There is space for cars if u are coming with your own vehicle. Kirriemuir is perfectly placed to offer a wide variety of experiences and sight seeing opportunities as well as city visits if u so choose. We offer 20% off any horse riding or lessons at our equestrian centre. Just ask at time of booking.
