The cottage is hand made with most building materials coming from the farm. The comfortable cottage is aesthetically tasteful and epitomises off the grid living with candles, a large fireplace and gas water heating, cooking and refrigeration as well as rain water supplying all drinking and sanitation needs. In a world that seems more and more inhumane, Fynboshoek is a space that strives to present a more humane environment. We milk our goats by hand and no machine is involved in our cheese making. This back-to-basics philosophy follows us to the garden from which our restaurant gets its ingredients, our kitchen and the cottage that you can stay in. It is important to understand that although on a small scale, this is a real working farm - our crowing roosters may wake you, insects may join you in holidaying in Summer, you may hear our vehicle heading at 5am to collect fresh milk to make our mozzarella, halloumi, cheddar and other cheeses etc. You are welcome to stroll around on the farm. There is a short trail that takes you around the entire farm, part of which will take you through a small patch of forest that we are in the process of rehabilitating to become entirely indigenous. As alluded to above, we have a restaurant on the farm where you can book a leisurely lunch overlooking our dam and enjoy the produce of the farm with the focus being on our hand made cheeses. A cheese demonstration can also be booked by prior arrangement. I always welcome my guests personally but respect their privacy after that. If they need anything, my staff or I are available. I live in one of the most beautiful parts of South Africa. We have a rare combination of sea, forests and mountains. The entire coastline of the Tsitsikamma is a marine park with the famous Otter Trail running along it. The area is for nature lovers but the glamorous Plettenberg Bay and cool Jeffries Bay is less than an hour away if you need a town fix. You will need your own or a rented car.
