Enjoy a rustic wooded retreat up in the cool Berkshire hills, surrounded by nature and wildlife, in a quiet, secluded, safe and peaceful setting, yet close to many top-notch cultural and recreational attractions. Nearby trails, pristine lakes and woods offer hiking, swimming and cycling. Experience the absence of mechanical sounds and the centering presence of rustling leaves, birdsong, and owls hooting at night. Behold a star-studded black night sky without artificial light. You'll enjoy a spacious, cool and comfortable room on the second floor with a King size bed with fresh cotton sheets, down comforter in winter, dressers, closet, bedside table, big windows with cross-ventilation and fans in summer, wood floors and private full bath. Surrounded by woods, nature and wildlife, a rustic and cozy getaway in a secluded and peaceful setting in rural Sandisfield, yet very close to first-class restaurants, museums, theater and shopping. Enjoy clean air, quiet, and a healthy and allergen-free environment to soothe your soul and refresh your senses. We are in the mountains, so summer nights are cool (on average 10 degrees cooler than nearby Great Barrington and Lee), dark and star-filled. Note: we have 2 bedrooms available. The other room (also with King bed) is listed under "Hospitality in the Berkshire Woods". If you want to book both rooms, just let me know and if they're both available I can arrange it. Breakfast is included! You may use our fully-equipped country kitchen (but not during Covid restrictions, unfortunately), relax by the fireplace in the living room, enjoy books and games, internet, screened porch, large deck, wooded private back yard, woodstove, and stone fireplaces. Free phone calls: no WIFI onsite, but cellphone & text service, an internet computer for your use, and free wifi nearby. You decide how much (if any) interaction you want. We may share the common rooms with you, but you will have your own private room and bathroom. We're here if you need anything and happy to recommend the best activities, sights and dining that our beautiful Berkshire County has to offer. On the other hand, if you want privacy, that's fine. You can walk, run, bike, or cross-country ski out the front door on a quiet, scenic, safe, no traffic country road. Situated between Sandisfield and Otis State Forests, surrounded by nature, serene and quiet, yet only 25 min. to Tanglewood, Norman Rockwell Museum, Kripalu Yoga retreat, Berkshire Theater Festival, Shakespeare and Co., Catamount ski and snowboard resort; 20 min. to Great Barrington (named "Best Small Town in America" by Smithsonian mag) and Lee for dining, shopping, natural food stores; only 15 min. to Jacob's Pillow Dance, Butternut Ski Area, concerts, theater, Appalachian Trail, craft fairs, farmers' markets and much more! Only minutes to farm stands, restaurants, Sandisfield Arts Center, swimming beaches on pristine lakes, hiking trails. Foxes, owls, wild turkeys, geese & ducks, coyotes, deer and moose are common sights. Great breakfast & lunch at the nearby Monterey General Store and the Roadside Café, and many excellent dinner choices in Great Barrington & Lee – just ask us for recommendations! Berkshire County has a wide range of cultural and recreational attractions: museums year-round include Rockwell, Berkshire Museum, the Clark Art Museum and the fabulous Mass. Museum of Contemporary Art. Hancock Shaker Village is a “living history” museum and many live theaters and music performances abound throughout the year. You can take a bus from New York City or Boston to Great Barrington or Lee, and get a cab or rent a car there, or we can pick you up. There is public transportation between the major Berkshire towns, but a car is highly recommended. Hartford/Bradley and Albany airports are each about an hour away. We can provide a delicious hearty organic country breakfast with local free-range eggs and on request, homemade gluten-free baked goods. Our hard-packed road is well-plowed in winter and accessible year-round. (Only the section west of our house is closed in winter.) Off-road parking is provided. LGBTQ-friendly. Children are welcome! Porta-Crib available on request. We have no pets except tropical fish. 2-night minimum on July and August weekends. Extras: we can also pick you up at the bus stop, arrange for rental of a car, bike or skis, provide healthy snacks, laundry and/or lunch. We love to cook and can even make you dinner! Just let us know what you'd like. We look forward to sharing our house and woods with you!
