COVID-19 information.... Please know we are using all required cleaning products and methods to sanitize the house before and after guest stays. Due to increased cleaning protocols, we can not accommodate same day guest change-overs. We require at least one full day to clean between guests. For example, if we have a guest leaving on Saturday morning, we cannot accept another guest arriving until Sunday afternoon. Thanks for understanding! Looking forward to a time where travel is safe and easy again! Carolyn View the photos above in full screen for photo captions. Welcome to Flavigny-sur-Ozerain, winner of the most beautiful village in Burgundy! This walled hilltop medieval village is perfectly preserved, and looks as it did in the middle ages. The town was the setting for the movie, “Chocolat” with Juliette Binoche & Johnny Depp. Stroll the narrow, curved streets, walk the ramparts, and listen to the church bells chime the hour. Our house dates from the 17th century and is situated at the end of the main street in town, right on the ramparts of the village, overlooking a peaceful valley with cows, sheep and grapevines dotting the hillsides. Les Remparts is a 3 bedroom, 3.5 bath house and is approx. 2200 square feet and sleeps 6. The house was featured on the HGTV television series, House Hunters International Renovations, where our creation of two full bathrooms, a WC, and a brand new kitchen was filmed. This renovation is documented on the show, which is episode 4 of the House Hunters International Renovation series. The episode is also available on NetFlix (search "House Hunters International RENNOVATIONS France) and on iTunes. There is more information on my LaMaisonRemparts page, which I cannot type out because they remove it. Use the standard beginning and ending to the name above, and you should find more information about the house, along with a floor plan and more photos. The walled village of Flavigny-sur-Ozerain dates from the 11th century, with most of the houses built in the 15th & 16th century. The winding streets are lined with hollyhock flowers all summer and you can enjoy exploring the ramparts walk. There is a small convenience store in town that sells bread, wine, cheese and canned goods and three restaurants--one true "farm-to-table" restaurant is open for lunch only (currently for take away only), and a French restaurant open for lunch and dinner (patio is open) and a Vietnamese and Grill restaurant open for lunch and dinner most days (currently closed due to the pandemic). This spacious house has beautiful meter-thick stone walls and was built in 1628 and 1775. The house consists of the ground floor, with an airy lounge off the entry door, with a french door leading to stairs to the garden, a laundry room with a washer & dryer, a brand new bathroom with limestone tile, which includes a shower, toilet, sink and a SAUNA. On the ground floor there is also a new, eat-in, open plan kitchen (fridge, freezer, dishwasher, oven & induction cooktop) with a WC under the stairs and direct access to the garden. The Library Bedroom (bedroom 2) is also on the ground floor, with an en-suite bathroom with a rain shower, toilet and sink in an antique cabinet. Then go up those curving stone steps in the kitchen to our Remparts Master Bedroom (bedroom 1) with a window seat opening on the view over the forest and valley, and a screened French door that opens to the garden . This room has a WC with sink, and a washroom with a soaking tub/rain shower, and a sink in an antique cabinet. This floor also has our “Convent Bedroom” (bedroom 3) which has as one wall doors sourced from a 19th Century Convent and a full height screened French door opening onto the garden. The Convent bedroom can be made up either as twin beds or as a queen sized bed. Guests in this second-floor bedroom may use the ground floor WC/sink under the stairway that is just outside their bedroom door, and will have as their private bathroom the full bathroom on the ground floor next to the sauna. Our large, delightful garden is full of climbing roses, lilies, lavender and hollyhocks. There is a koi pond with a curved bridge for peaceful contemplation, and tables and chairs for hors d’oeuvres and dinners al fresco! There is a lovely covered pavilion in the garden, situated to take advantage of the view. Under the pavilion, enjoy sitting on the couches to enjoy coffee in the morning, or a glass of wine in the evening! The view over the rampart walls is unchanged since the middle ages—no modernity is visible! A 2-minute walk through town brings to you to an “Epicerie” which sells bread, eggs, cheese, milk, wine, canned goods and gift items. Also a 2-3 minutes walk brings you to the farm-to-table restaurant “La Grange” which is open for lunch most days during the summer & early fall, and the Abbaye Restaurant is open for lunches and dinners most days of the week. There is also a Vietnamese and Grill restaurant, Le Garum, in town, near the church. Also in town is the famed Anis de Flavigny candy store, where the little licorice candies are created in an ancient abbey. The Anis factory also has a tea room serving sandwiches and drinks. A 10 minute drive takes you past the Flavigny Winery (tastings available) to the village of Veneray Les Laumes, with a huge supermarket, a train station and many other shops and services. Twenty minutes away is the medieval town of Semur-en-Auxois, with it’s beautiful stone towers and river. Flavigny is a 3 hour drive from Paris or the airport, and is 25 minutes away from a TGV High-speed train station which can whisk you into Paris in one hour! Flavigny is ideally located an hour’s drive away from the charming cities of Dijon, and Beaune, and is within an hour’s drive of the Champagne and Chablis wine areas, and an hour and 15 minutes away from Côte de Nuits, and Côte de Beaune wine regions. Come to Burgundy and share our little slice of paradise!
