Wool Home in Évora | Alentejo Countryside #4

⇛ VALE DE GATOS ⇚ We are a sort of small farm just a few kilometres South of Évora. We are a Wool Home where the passion for Architecture got together with the love for Weaving. There are four bedrooms. BEDROOM #4 – Mezzanine room, accommodating up to 4 people – A double bed downstairs – Upstairs a relaxing working space with two single extra beds – Breakfast is prepared with regional produce and served in our kitchen or on the porch – Access is given to two shared bathrooms ⇛ ABOUT US ⇚ We are a sort of small farm just a few kilometres South of Évora, but inland enough to be able to feel Alentejo’s deep breadth. We are neither an estate nor a rural tourism place; we are a home where the passion for Architecture got together with the love for Weaving. We have rooms ready to welcome our hosts, a sunny porch and a communal kitchen. We have a small orchard. And we have sheep of the breed Campaniça – which is as good as to say “wool”, intertwining woven stories and other travels. What we have to offer goes beyond the infinite landscapes of hills and the ever-present smell of green in flowers and fruit, we have a huge loom that feels like a room or a room that gives shape to a loom and which is the soul of our Vale. When we first came to live here we were far from imagining that our doors would open to other lands. When you come to visit us do bring with you that sort of caring of those who know that the best things happen only when one is respectful of one’s nature and the fruit of one’s passion. ⇛ THE WOOL DWELLING ⇚ Ours is a house «in progress», a family place which as it receives so it gives back. Shares. We envisage every stay as an opportunity to learn. We believe in the realm of Nature and respect every living being as a fantastic work of creation. Our sheep are shorn with great care. It is in nature that we seek inspiration and the colours to dye the wool with. Each skein that goes into the loom is part of age-old knowledge and a perception of life, which we grow in a sustainable manner and with loving care. ⇛ ARTISTIC RESIDENCY ⇚ Our residents have brought a globe of nationalities and interests to us and with them, we have travelled the world. We often host craft and weaving lovers. We help in the preparation of the project and ensure the raw material and quietness necessary for the creative process. If you so wish, Isabel will assist you in your creative textile project: be it spinning, weaving, tapestry, knitting, crochet, etc. A welcoming environment awaits craftspeople, artists, trekkers and daydreamers alike, whether they have a flair for such activities and are interested in creative projects, investigation, and training in textiles and textile-related activities - or simply wish for unspoiled nature, either for long walks or a comfortable rest chair under the inviting porch.
