Our holiday home is situated in Kemijärvi 85 kms/ 53 miles north-east from Rovaniemi. Nice peaceful 71 m2 apartment close to the nature. You can rest hiking, biking, skiing, swimming, picking berries or mushrooms - whatever you like. Kemijärvi is a town of 6000 inhabitants in the middle of two lakes just above the polar circle. Sauna. There are good trails for crosscountry skiing almost from our front door. The distances to the downhill skiing areas: 45 kms to Suomu and 53 kms to Pyhä. You can travel from Helsinki directly to Kemijärvi sleeping in a comfortable cabin in a train or e.g. fly to Rovaniemi and take a bus to Kemijärvi (85 kms). The train station lies about 1 km and the bus stop about 300 meters from us. The distance to the center of Kemijärvi is 2 kms and easy to walk. If you want to go to Pyhä fell to ski or hike, you can take a bus in the morning and come back in the afternoon/ evening. You have access to the whole apartment and also to the sauna on the ground floor. You reserve the sauna writing your name on the reservation list by sauna and turn it on just 1 - 1,5 hrs before going there. I live myself most of the time in Helsinki but you can reach me easily all the time. You'll find in the apartment detailed information about the apartment, house, possibilities in Kemijärvi and in the surrounding area. I also send information and recommendations beforehand via Airbnb if you wish that. The woods start right after our apartment house street and the neighbouring one-family-house street. If you don't have a car, you walk easily and safely to Kemijärvi center in 20-25 minutes (2 kms). If you like to walk and bike, here some suggestions for you in the summertime: 1. Take a walk to Kuumalampi Park (next to the center) 2. Take a walk or bike to the opposite direction to Honkakangas forest trail (Honkakankaan metsäpolku) 3. Bike to Kotavaara Observation Tower (Kotajärven näkötorni, Salla or Kuusamo direction), we have one male and one female bike. 4. When visiting Kemijärvi, definitely go also to Pyhätunturi (Pyhä mountain, Pyhä-Luosto national park) by bus in the morning (8.50 or 9.30) and come back in the evening (leaving from there 17.45). Have a look at internet (nationalparks, pyha-luosto) You can start in Pyhä-Luosto Visitor Center Naava that houses an inspiring nature exhibition on the nature and cultural history of Pyhä-Luosto National Park. Here you can also get good information about possibilities of Pyhä-Luosto mountain area year round and buy stylish Lappish souvenirs. When going to Pyhätunturi, the bus stop is on Pelkosenniementie, almost in front of K-market 300 meters from our apartment. You can buy the bus ticket from the driver or from internet (matkahuolto). 5. There are small symphatetic local entrepreneurers offering outdoor activities (URL HIDDEN) Please make reservations as soon as possible because these are small organizers and often fullbooked! a) Havumetsän Huskyt/ Eija Tennilä organizes in the wintertime - husky rides in the forests for small groups. In the rides she includes also presentation of the animals of the farm and hot drink + local sweets and stories by fire in the small kota (shelter) building. Pick up service possible. (URL HIDDEN) Address: Asutusalueentie (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) Kemijärvi, tel. +(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) b) Outisen ratsastuskeskus (horse riding center and reindeer farm)/ Mia Lappalainen organizes - horse riding lessons and riding tours in the woods with original Finnhorses, - horse sledge & carriage rides and reindeer rides. - Always included the presentation of the farm, stories about the Lappish life style with animals, hot drink + bun sitting in the Lappish shelter by camp fire. - Mia’s farm is situated 10 kms from us to the North (Pelkosenniemi/ Sodankylä direction, good signs). Easy to reach the place also by taxi. (URL HIDDEN) Address: Sodankyläntie (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) Kemijärvi, tel. +(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). c) Urheilu-Sivakka Urheilu Sivakka (owner Kari Lukkarinen) is both a specilized sports shop in the center of Kemijärvi (Vapaudenkatu 6) and an organizer of outdoor activities for small groups: - ice fishing trips to a lake, - snowshoe tours, - skiing on the lake and in the woods, - possibility to bathe in the small 100 years old smoke sauna - possibility to sit at the shelter experiencing tranquillity by the camp fire. The organizer rents you proper equipment, clothes and shoes for these activities. Pick up service from home. There are two pairs of snow shoes and one kick sled for your use and two sleds for children, too. We have also one male and one female bicycle you can use at times when there is no snow. They have our names on them and they are in the ground floor of the house. Keys are in the apartment.
