Mulino Rotone is an antique natural stone building from the 16th Century, one of the oldest buildings in the area and the oldest oil and grain mill in the region around Castagneto Carducci (Province of Livorno, Tuscany). The spacious house belonged to the Counts Gherardesca and in the old days housed five peasant families who worked in the mill and in agriculture. Today the Mulino Rotone is owned by the German painter and author Karin von Jutrzenka Trzebiatowski Gilliam, who lives there all year round and is the contact person for her guests. The building comprises five individually furnished apartments of different sizes, each with its own kitchen and bathroom, and two guest rooms with bathroom and small kitchen. The apartments offer sleeping facilities for two to eight people. They have been lovingly restored, some with beautiful antiques, kilims, patchwork covers, old mirrors, art and decorative items, the charm of the old wooden beam ceilings, cross vaults and terracotta floors have been retained. All apartments have central heating (for guests who want to go on holiday in the colder season) and most of them also have a fireplace. In the house there is a 100 square meter hall with a cross vault with excellent acoustics, suitable for concerts and celebrations, wine tasting and courses. The particularly beautiful building with its unique secluded location in the valley of Castagneto, where the hills gently slope towards the sea, has already been described in numerous books and articles. Karin Gilliam is the author of the picture book "Mulino Rotone - the dream of a house in Tuscany" ISBN 3-936353-23-9, if out of print in Germany it can still be ordered from the author.
