Grove Farmhouse and Black Swan Barn

Grove Farm & Black Swan Barn were part of the Henniker Estate which can be traced back to the 1300’s. The farmhouse was built around 1550 and extended in the Georgian period in the 1800’s to the house you see today. It was an L shaped building which was made square. It was sold away from the Henniker estate in the 1980’s . Grove farm sits in about 12 acres of land including gardens a grass meadow with a small wood offering lovely views over the countryside towards the nearest village of Wickham Skeith. A lot of wildlife passes through the grounds all the time night and day. Three types of deer, three kinds of owls, two woodpeckers, badgers, fox, barn cats (hard to spot) and birds of prey. Black Swan Barn sits in a peaceful, rural location just outside the village of Thornham Magna and provides a luxury base for you to explore the area. The barn is a contemporary build far removed from your average barn conversion. It doesn't have blinds at every window as the vast majority of the property isn't overlooked and so benefits from natural light and views over the garden. Some of the walls appear unfinished but it's a trick of the light between absolute white and setting plaster by Farrow & Ball which compliment the natural colours of the bleached oak flooring. There are walls of polished concrete too which enhance that contemporary feel. Old and contemporary sit side by side in harmony. The accommodation is all on the ground floor. The living space is open-plan with vaulted ceilings and floor to ceiling windows giving lots of natural light to the space. Besides the main sitting area with wood burning stove, there is also a further area with comfy seating and a large dining space and well equipped kitchen. Each of the bedrooms has an en-suite bathroom with large walk in rainfall showers. Outside there is a garden and fields to explore and the chance to spot wildlife including deer and birds. There is a further house next to the barn, Grove Farm House which is available to rent and sleeps 10 guests.
