1913 tree house - Pin Oak Room
"All I want is a room somewhere, far away from the cold night air... Not, too stuffy please. I want to sleep well and be comfortable when I wake. I want to walk to cool spots and be near public transit to University Circle and downtown." Congratulations! You found us! If you have to visit Cleveland regularly for business and wish you could just store your belongings in one place -- a comfortable place to land each time you return, or if you'd like to have a "pied a terre" closer to your work, this room can provide a comfortable alternative to hotel life. It can also be a great spot for a graduation weekend, a wedding or just visiting the land of Cleve. I live here with one 40 something housemates -- a chemist for a local brewery. He's quiet and friendly. So am I. My politics are on the left, and I prefer classical and jazz music, but more often than not, just the sounds of the great outdoors. I smoke, so you can, too. (Yes, in the house, but not upstairs.) Just please don't burn anything. We share the kitchen and downstairs living space. We also share the house with a 6 year old mixed breed 25lb pooch who is learning her manners. She's house-broken and learning to not jump up to greet visitors. The room, furnished with a full bed, plenty of personal storage, closet, large dressers, desk and desk chair. Linens and towels are provided. Windows on the south and west sides offer natural light with a large pin oak shading the south windows. That's why it's a tree house; the room is enveloped in the midstory of a huge tree. The shared bath includes a luxurious deep bathtub with shower. There's a front porch and a lovely backyard with a picnic table and grape arbor. The living room has a working fireplace which is very nice in the fall and spring. This unique arts and crafts house, with all the cool old features like pocket doors and built-ins, is lovingly restored, but not stuffy. Cleveland Heights' best grocer is a few steps away, and the house is an easy walk to the Cedar Lee and Coventry business districts. Best coffee, great restaurants, Cain Park summer concert and theater, galleries and best movie theater in Cleveland are nearby. It is a quick roll (about 15 minutes by car to Cleveland Clinic or University Hospital/CWRU) down the hill by car or bike or an hour walk to the center of University Circle. Access to all appliances including the laundry. Cable wifi. There's no AC - just shade and fans, no landline, no tv. It's old school comfortable. Restful. Parking as noted elsewhere is limited to one space. Please inquire. I have offered lots about me and our home. Please tell me lots about you as you request or inquire about a stay. Particularly in a global pandemic, we must all be careful of unconsciously spreading the virus. Both I and my visiting partner are older and have greater susceptibility in this shared space. Bedroom, bath, living room, kitchen, laundry, yard. I am a Clevelander and happy to suggest spots you may not have discovered via tripadvisor. I'm almost always here, give good directions. You can see the hidden Cleveland - the one you've never heard about. Borrow a bike and take a ride. See the sunset over Lake Erie as Rockefeller did from his porch at Forest Hill or wind your way to Whiskey Island and see the setting sun burn into the western shoreline while the cityscape stands yards away at your back just on the other side of the mighty Cuyahoga. I've been hosting visitors for 30 years. I love it. Cleveland always surprises pleasantly. Guests will enjoy all the amenities of the historic district: Grant Deming Forest Hill Neighborhood (search that) Longtime family owned local grocer steps away. Brew Pub a couple blocks away, myriad restaurants, coffee shops, movie theater and library in the nearby business district. The 32 bus line and the 40 bus line take you to the transit's red line (heavy rail). The 32 bus from Cedar and Lee (a 6 minute walks from the house) goes directly to the front door of the Cleveland Clinic. That trip is 30 minutes on the half hour weekdays. Like many industrial cities, public transit was undermined in the midcentury to make way for cars. We do have it, if you're patient and depending on where you need to go. Our transit GCRTA is mapped via internet maps - search from Cedar Lee to where you need to go. The 11 bus line and the 40 bus line take you to the transit's red line (heavy rail).
