Walnut Tree Refuge - St. Christopher's Valley

A mid-19th century stone house with a garden in a calm part of Kryštofovo Údolí / Christofsgrund - one of the most picturesque and preserved villages in the country. Surrounded by hills and serene forrests, yet 15 minutes from Liberec/Reichenberg, the regional capital, and a 80 min. ride from Prague. Cool house in a cool valley. Modern equipment with all you need at any time of the year. Great base for trips in "Isergebirge", "Riesengebirge", "Zittauer Gebirge" or "Sachsische Schweiz". A garden with a 3,5 m quality trampoline, a parasol and furniture and a large walnut tree that gives shade all day long, a raspberry bush (ripening in July) a fireplace and a grill. Inside, 5 to 6 people can sleep on beds and two on a couch in the living room. More in on matraces or in a tent in the garden. The ground level is heated with a view wood burning stove in the living room, the upper storey with electricity and/or gas. You'll have access everywhere: 2 bedrooms, living room with a cooking place, bathroom, WC, pantry, garden. We meet on the spot or in Prague. Or our neighbour will welcome and assist you. We provide you with detailed written and video instructions. We chop firewood and cut grass for you, unless you want to try you luck with the axe and scythe. We are a pack with two children and a baby and use the house for many weeks all year round, so all a family may need is there, including games, toys, a trampoline, a canoe, climbing equipment, gardening and wood carving tools etc. We store our stuff in the attic for your stay so there's plenty of room for your stuff. Quite a few books, no TV. The village is a beautiful 16th century settlement (just make image search on "Krystofovo udoli" on any search engine), predominantly German speaking until 1946. Thanks to well-preserved Lusatian folk architecture, including a famous wooden church and dozens of historical houses, it is a protected heritage site. Our house is in a calm part, only 150 m from the nearest forest and a public pool. There are four restaurants in the village, one of them right next to the house, and a stylish café. The place is in the middle of a natural reserve, surrounded by 100 sqkm of forrest with tens of miles of serene tracks. Ideal for mountain biking or cross-country skiing in winter. Some climbing spots nearby - we have basic climbing equipment for you to use. The region is very calm compared to Jizerské hory / Isergebirge to the north. A place where history, culture and nature meet in intriguing ways. Our family has roots in nearby Liberec. We are enamoured of the region and its spirit and chose and furnished the house so as to pay respect to it. We'll provide you with detailed tips on walks, hikes, places of interest, dining options etc. Parking next to the house. There's public bus and train connection from Liberec. An 80 min. ride from Prague, 15 mins. from Liberec. The house is visited and guarded by our cat named Gandalf. Let us know if you don't want him here, we'll take him with us. You can limit his access around the house, as we do.
