Peaceful stone-built cottage at the edge of a beautiful, traditional village
Kato Drys is a traditional stone-built village within easy access of Nicosia, Limassol and Larnaca. The village is well known for it's clean air, and surrounding hills. On a clear day, the view extends to the sea. The Minas Valley rolls away from Kato Drys to reveal gentle hills covered in olive or carob trees and vineyards. The Agios Minas monastery and the foothills of the Troudos Mountains shimmer in the distance, shades of blue and lavender guide your eyes to where the hills meet the sky. The village itself is a pleasure to walk around with several chapels, a well known church, a museum, coffee shop and a restaurant famous for it's ancient Platanos tree. Located on the edge of the village above the Platanos Restaurant, the cottage is easily accessible to the centre of village activity but separate enough to give privacy and quiet. The cottage's thick stone walls and high ceilings immediately place the visitor in a different era, in a period where life's pace was less frantic. However, the modern facilities of fitted kitchen, air conditioning, washing machine/dryer, WIFI and swimming pool, combine to give the best of an old-world pace of life with the comforts of modern Cyprus. A walled patio accessible from the kitchen and one bedroom is a quiet place for a coffee in the morning, while the covered terrace beside the swimming pool invites family and friends to relax together. The swimming pool is in full sunlight in the morning but after lunch the shadow of the cottage gives a cooling respite from the Cypriot summer heat. The interior of the house is well appointed. A large entrance hall opens into the main living room. High ceilings give an airy feeling to this room which looks out of French doors to a covered terrace, swimming pool and the hills around Kato Drys. The living room has a three-seat sofa, two wing-backed chairs, a large lounge chair and a day bed. There is a TV screen with Apple TV, an i-pad to access internet programmes, DVD player and amplifier with an i-pod stand to play your own music with. The covered terrace has a small round table with four chairs, two wing-backed chairs and an extended corner sofa which can seats six (but is also long enough to stretch out for an afternoon siesta). The dining room can be accessed from the covered terrace or through the kitchen. A table with seating for maximum eight people looks through the french doors onto the covered terrace seating area. The kitchen is open plan to the dining area. The smaller patio is also accessed through the exterior kitchen door and an exterior door to one of the single-bed bedrooms. It is furnished with a wooden bench, small round table and four chairs. Ideal for a leisurely breakfast. The kitchen equipment consists of ceramic hob, oven, refrigerator/freezer and dishwasher. There are sufficient pots, pans and serving dishes, glasses, cutlery and crockery for 12 persons. Beside the pool there is a utility room with a washing machine and dryer. This room also houses a large side-by-side refrigerator/freezer for additional cooling of drinks and storage of food. Beside this utility room is a shower which is private enough for use by anyone wishing to shower out-of-doors. The swimming pool is 4 x 8 metres and accessed by three steps and hand rail into the shallow end, which is one metre deep. The pool slopes into a final depth of only 1.5 metres. This swimming pool is designed to swim, exercise, cool-off and play in. It is not suitable for diving. Four sun loungers are arranged around the pool and the far end of the pool catches the sun until after 6pm. The open stone-work of the walls of the bedrooms adds an unusual ambience to the sleeping quarters. Each bedroom has its own split air conditioning unit. The master bedroom has a king-size bed, en-suite shower room with double sinks and French-style windows opening onto the pool area. The master guest bedroom is furnished with a queen-size bed and has an ensuite bath/shower. Two other bedrooms (one opening onto the walled patio) have two single beds each and are served by a smaller toilette with shower. This stone-built cottage invites everyone to relax and enjoy themselves either in smaller groupings or together with family and friends.
