The Rest House is a beautifully converted Grade II listed studio barn. Fully equipped for short breaks, it's the perfect base from which to walk the coastal path, visit local beaches, go wild swimming or explore West Penwith's sacred sites. And there's a woodburning stove to warm you up in the cooler months. * Please note all reservations are subject to the current Covid restrictions. If you get sick or think you may have Covid, please stay home to help keep Cornwall safe. Thank you. * The Rest House is a studio barn that has everything you need for a restful and relaxing stay: a comfortable double bed, a clean and contemporary bathroom, and a fully equipped kitchen. What makes it special is the surprisingly spacious feel of this listed building and the walled courtyard, the quality of the conversion and facilities provided, and the woodburner that comes with a small oven in the top - perfect for warming up scones after a day's walking. No one knows when the Rest House was originally built, but it was used for many years by the neighbouring Methodist Church as a place to rest the Minister's horse and trap (cart) while he was carrying out his pastoral duties. It's the connection to the church that resulted in its Grade II heritage listing. It was a challenge converting this space into one that retained some of the original charm and character and provided the modern amenities that discerning travellers now expect. But I think you'll agree, The Rest House does just that. You'll have the whole of The Rest House and the private walled courtyard to yourselves. I am close by should you need anything. Otherwise, I'll leave you in peace to enjoy The Rest House and all that this area has to offer. This is an ideal base from which to explore the area, whether you are a walker, a writer, or simply wanting a quiet or romantic break. St Levan, Porthcurno, Land's End and Sennen offer spectacular coastal walking routes. There are spectacular beaches nearby, such as Porthcurno and Sennen, as well as smaller, more private beaches, such as Nanjizal. There is a good local pub in Treen, a fantastic local farm shop in St Buryan, a vegetable stand around the corner, and more! Walkers, wild swimmers and foragers will love this area. (I am a regular seaweed forager at Nanjizal!) Poldark fans are also in for a treat. Penberth and Porthgwarra, local former fishing villages, were regular filming locations. Rosamunde Pilcher fans also have plenty of nearby locations to explore. The Minack Theatre, which is built into the cliff face at Porthcurno, has a number of outdoor performances from May to September. The sunsets and moonrises as you look out to sea during performances are often spectacular. For those interested in local history, the Porthcurno Telegraph Museum is a must. Open all year round, you can learn about the incredible and surprising communication history of this area. (Hint: think undersea telegraph cable and the development of wireless radios.) It's also just a 20-minute drive to St Just, and the extraordinary mining heritage of Geevor and Lelant. This area is well worth a visit, and can be coupled with more spectacular coastal walking. For getting out and about beyond the immediate area and coast path, a small car is recommended. There is a bus from Penzance that goes to Land's End and Sennen, but it is fairly infrequent, especially outside of May to September. Please note that the oven is a combination microwave oven. Instruction on how to use it will be provided.
