Like a Treehouse! (See below for vax information.)
Note- VACCINATION PROOF NOW REQUIRED- see below. You'll feel like you're in a tree house in our 750 sq ft coach house, above our workshop/garage, behind our home in historic Forest Park ("The Mayberriest Downtown!"-Chicago Magazine), right next to Oak Park. Just 8 miles west of Downtown Chicago, convenient to I-290 and the Blue Line train. The Coach House is cozy, comfortable, and casual, and full of all the little touches and extras that truly make it a home away from home. RE: Vaccination In the interest of preserving everyone's health, for the time being, we are requiring that all guests of eligible age be vaccinated. We are your cleaning crew as well as your hosts; and the Coach House shares the same air system as our workshop. We are both triple vaccinated, but health issues put us both at higher risk for a breakthrough infection. Once your reservation is made, we'll ask that you send us a photo of vaccination cards for all guests. Each guest helps the next one this way, and you can rest easier knowing the previous guest was vaccinated. Thank you for understanding, and if this doesn't work for you right now, we look forward to seeing you once we've got this pandemic under control. The Details- Second floor space, with 14 exterior steps up to your private entrance. Completely private inside- no shared interior areas. Free adjacent parking space. Large, dog friendly fenced yard with patio areas, which are shared with our family, but generally available to guests. 15 minute walk to the Blue Line train, which will bring you to downtown Chicago in 30 minutes. 5 minute drive to I-290. Full bath. Minimal kitchenette area (under counter fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, toaster, bar sink, utensils, plates, glasses- but no stove); living room with 2 foldout sofa beds, and one bedroom with king bed. Newly remodeled bath and kitchenette/entrance. Complimentary coffee, tea, soft drinks, and snacks. The minimal (but useful) kitchenette is great for simple breakfasts or lunch, and reheating leftovers from our many local restaurants. Well behaved dogs are welcome, with prior notice. Please let us know first. Dogs love our big fenced backyard! A $25 extra cleaning fee applies. No cats, please. (We have a frequently returning guest, and cleaning staff, who are very allergic.) No smoking, vaping, or incense inside. A $250 cleaning fee may be charged, if there's any evidence of smoking. No parties or loud gatherings. No music that can be heard beyond the property lines. We do standard "American style" bedding- a fitted sheet, a cotton top sheet, and layered blankets on top of that. No third party reservations, please. Per Airbnb regulations, the person making the reservation must be one of the guests, for the entire stay. If something breaks or gets spilled, just let us know. Accidents happen, and we'll work out how to make it good. Feel free to grab cleaning supplies from the broom closet for minor spills. There are several patio spaces in the backyard, that guests can generally access (if our family doesn't have a previously planned gathering), plus a "mini deck" of your own, at the top of the stairs, perfect for a morning cup of coffee among the trees! We live in the main house, just steps away. We're there if you need us. We meet some of our guests only briefly, but we're always glad to meet new people and welcome them to Chicago! We both work, but feel free to reach out to us for local advice. If we're home, we may be able to run you up to the train station, half a mile up the street. Amy is very versed in local history, and always glad to share! Circle Avenue is a residential, family neighborhood, on the south side of Forest Park. We're ten minutes away from Concordia University and Dominican University in River Forest. A few blocks east is historic Oak Park, home of Frank Lloyd Wright, and many of the homes he built. And Forest Park is a historical center of the Labor Movement. The Haymarket Martyrs Monument is world famous, visited by thousands every year. And our Madison Street shopping district, less than a mile up the street, was just voted "The Mayberriest Downtown" by Chicago Magazine, with unique stores, coffee shops, clothing stores, antique stores, restaurants, and bars! A classic small town grocery, a laundromat, Walgreens, and other conveniences are just a few blocks away. If you're driving, we're just 5 minutes off the Eisenhower/290 Harlem ramp. There's free off street parking in back. The Chicago train system (The "El") is extensive and straightforward to navigate, with a day pass or individual tickets. The Blue Line / Harlem train stop is a 15 minute walk north, and will usually get you to downtown Chicago in less than 30 minutes. Forest Park is more than half cemetery land, and there are beautiful and historic places to walk through nearby. The coach house is above Geoff's workshop, so you may occasionally smell sawdust and hear tools in use (at reasonable hours.) Amy and our daughter are horse people, so the coach house has a warm, western feel in its decor. (There are no actual horses on the property ;) We may be able to lend you a bicycle, or even a kayak! This is a smoke and vape-free space. And Chicago Magazine voted us "The Mayberriest Downtown!" (March, 2019- "Winner: Forest Park! It has the ideal mix of independent shops, buzzy restaurants, and small-town nostalgia — and you can get there on the L.")
