"The Nest" in Mulege

Named for the Osprey nest outside the window, "The Nest" is a private, light filled retreat for one or two people. Located one mile east of Mulege centro the elevated location brings steady, gentle breezes. Your hosts have been wintering at this historic location for 10 years, turning "the dump with a view" into the remarkable paradise of their dreams. Views include the lighthouse, Mulege River, Sea of Cortez and the plateaus in the valley to the west. This rustic dwelling was built in the 1960's for the manager of the nearby (now abandoned) hotel. It was vacated soon after and fell into a state of neglect. In 2008 the current owners took on a project of unfathomable magnitude and gradually transformed this decrepit hovel into a restored hacienda. "The Nest" became a reality in 2016 when the swimming pool deck and support buildings created the ideal location for a guest casita. The entire compound is gated for maximum security. 2 person maximum occupancy. During October, November, March, April and May the pool is a refreshing option for your afternoon schedule. The pool is not heated so other months are for the very hearty. We have kayaks, snorkel equipment, books, cards and board games for guest use. If you are a lucky fisherman we have a fish cleaning sink for your use, too. The owner is an active volunteer with the local spay and neuter clinic and often has several small dogs being fostered in preparation for adoption. There is a separation fence available if guests prefer no interaction with dogs. Guests are welcome to bring their own small, well behaved dogs. The owners will respect your privacy. However, the pool, barbeque, patio, fish cleaning sink, gardens and parking are group use areas. We love to meet and interact with our guests but will respect your wishes. Loma Azul has traditionally been an enclave of a few Mexican fishermen and their families. However, the past few years has brought residents from all over the world to enjoy our spectacular views and tranquil pace of life. The road from town is paved all the way to Loma Azul. The street to "The Nest" is 50 yards of gravel and dirt, uphill. We are in a very walkable location, with 3 cantinas just moments away. Great hiking, also, to the lighthouse and Punta Prieta. Your hosts will make every attempt to inform you of activities happening in the community.
