Charming and lovingly restored farmhouse in the countryside of Franconia. Built in 1581, the Kirchenstraße (Churches Street) Haus stands with tranquility over 430 years later. It's seated next door to St. Bartholomew's Church, where the bells chime harmoniously on the 1/4 hour. Oberdachstetten is a village of 1600 with a train stop, and close proximity to Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Nürnberg. The home has 5 bedrooms, for 13-9 Adults/4 kids + ultimate amenities for your respite in Germany. While the exterior and town are charming, it's the Kirchenstraße Haus interior that will leave you speechless. You'll feel as though you've walked into a luxury German Fairy Tale as you step into the main great room, where the expansive ceiling of original log beams is accentuated by a wrought iron chandelier and floor to ceiling German Kachelofen. The ultra-modern kitchen and open living room is situated in the old barn and hayloft. This light-filled space is connected to the Hof and terrace through two sets of double doors that open to the home's outdoor "living room." Upstairs, a gallery lined with bookshelves and 4 chaise lounges gives you an area to relax and read. Your entrance into this peaceful home is wrapped in grapevines through a wooden door original from the 1765 renovation. Our timber-framed (Fachwerk) house is one of the rare treasures of this area having open beams preserved not only on the outside, but also throughout the interior. The pride of Oberdachstetten as the oldest house in the village, Kirchenstraße Haus is protected under historic preservation and has been painstakingly and lovingly restored to match the Prince-Bishop of Würzburg era and design of 1581. The history of the house is fascinating. The modern bed design and lights are accented by open beams and rare Fränkisch (Franconian) artwork. Bedroom 2 downstairs is appointed as a Kinderzimmer (Childrens' room) with 4 single beds, two antique beds from the 1930's and a modern single with a trundle. Toys, books and art material and a hiding place in the closet are treasures for your children to explore. Bedroom 3 upstairs is a king-sized bed with a view into the churchyard. Bedroom 4 upstairs is a king-sized bed with a sloped roof and oodles of charm. At the top of the stairs you'll find a sofa-bed nestled into a quiet alcove fit to sleep one adult. Bedroom 5 upstairs is the "Blue Room" equipped with a king-sized bed and some winsome accents that will charm your socks off. All 5 bedrooms boast high end mattresses and bedding for extreme comfort. The upstairs bathroom is decorated with vintage French porcelain for a quaint and cozy feel. After a long day in Rothenburg or hiking/biking the Naturpark Frankenhöhe treat your crew to a mouthwatering meal in the gourmet kitchen, fully equipped with state-of-the-art appliances and an eat-in counter. If barbecue is more your flavor, feel free to utilize the grill on the terrace overlooking our quiet town! Our family restored this home while we were living in it! There are a few things that are odd or difficult about the house that we want you to know about. In 1581, people were shorter! There are some doorways that will be a hazard if you are over 5'8". Watch your head. The kitchen vent will only work when you press INT. There is a persnickety gas burner, and a bit of finesse of holding the lighter knob in for a bit longer than you think necessary (count to 10) will keep the burner lit. Door handles in Germany are tricky. If you need help, please text or call Helga. The sauna is in the barn. The bells of the church next door will either charm you or annoy! They chime on the quarter hour and are prominent. If you are a light sleeper, this may be bothersome. We ask that you bring a book to leave -we're building the library! Please sign and date it.
