The comfortable home made from straw bales and loam is equipped with everything that makes your holiday a relaxing moment. The earthen stucco gives a warm feeling and offers plenty of room for creative details. This friendly way of building provided a luxury home with a large wow factor. The gite is fully equipped including a well-equipped kitchen, 2 separate bedrooms, underfloor heating and a bathroom with bathtub. Les Trois Petits Cochons is free on a domain of half a hectare of wild flower meadow on the edge of a forest. It is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the slower pace in this pristine southern French region. There is a large private covered terrace and surrounding garden with spectacular views, including the last Cathar stronghold the Montségur. From this terrace you can see how the sun disappears behind the immense mountain peaks in the evening and the sky turns pink. Space is given for an infinite starry sky that sparkles towards you - unhindered by any form of ambient light. That's how vacation should be! Les Trois Petits Cochons (indeed: the three small piglets) is a piece of land the size of half a football field on the edge of the lovely village of Belloc. This was started from 2016 with the construction of a holiday home. It will be leased from the summer of 2019. The original holiday home fits perfectly in the unspoilt landscape. No wonder when you consider that most of the ecological building materials come from the immediate area: wood from the Pyrenees, straw bales from the surrounding grain fields, sand from the nearby river de l'Hers and clay from our own soil. The walls are made of clay and straw bales, which ensures a pleasant indoor climate: cool in the summer and pleasantly warm in the winter months. This ecological way of building is not only friendly to the environment, but also very pleasant for the residents. The "breathable" walls guarantee a healthy and pleasant indoor climate both in summer and in winter. The earthen stucco offers plenty of room for creative details. Enjoy the ever-changing view of the valley and those enchanting mountains from your covered private terrace, while children go exploring in the garden or have fun with the available toys. Just a walk by the river (with natural swimming pools), the nearby lake or forest and you immediately feel like a different person. Escape modern life and immerse yourself in this natural beauty. Come on in Everything about the house exudes our preference for natural: on the floor is cork, the stairs are made of beautiful wooden planks and the balustrade is realized from oak bark trees from the forest behind the house. Part of the furniture is made by hand. To enjoy the spectacular view inside, the gite has large windows on all sides. This creates a pleasant incidence of light. Every room has a view of the beautiful surroundings. The layout On the ground floor there is a spacious bedroom with two single beds, a bathroom with shower and bath, sink and toilet, a well-equipped kitchen (with fridge, 4-burner gas stove, combi oven / microwave, coffee maker and kettle). The dining area seats 4 people. The comfortable sitting room has a corner sofa, radio / CD player. The light and spatial character of the house is emphasized by a void. Upstairs there is a spacious second bedroom with a double bed and plenty of cupboard space. In consultation there is room to place a cot. Heat control We have underfloor heating, which is easy to use and very efficient. In addition, there is a petroleum stove (but you will not need this). Heating costs are included in the price. The house has an ecological air-conditioning system that dates back to earlier times, using cool air drawn from the ground by a fan (Canadian well). To sleep The two spacious bedrooms offer space for a family of four. There is a double bed, two single beds and possibly a place for a baby cot. The bedrooms naturally have a window that can be opened. The rooms are conveniently located and maintain a pleasant temperature in the summer months. You will find your bed made upon arrival. Bed linen is included in the rent. Bathroom In the bathroom you will find a shower, bath, dressing table with sink and a toilet. Bath towels are provided as well as some standard toilet articles. Outside The house is oriented South-Southeast. The covered terrace offers a breathtaking view over the valley and the Pyrenees, so that you are not only private but also dry. The terrace is furthermore equipped with a barbecue, an outside table and four chairs. A parasol and sun loungers are available. The house is free on the property with a private garden on all sides. There is a lawn with toys, a hammock, a large trampoline, 4 laying hens, fruit trees and a herb and vegetable garden. There are no cars on the site; you can park your car for the terrain. Meals Guests take care of their own meals. The nearest bakery is in Léran (4 km). There are so many walks to choose from, directly from the front door. The GR07 also runs nearby. From the gite you descend for example to the river where you can not only swim, but also rock climbing on different levels. This is the area for spotting animals - from foxes to otters -. In the spring months you will find here many rare wild orchids, in the fall there is a strong search for mushrooms. This area is loved by cyclists. It is not for nothing that this area is a regularly returning guest in the Tour de France trail. This region is perfect for trips such as to Foix or Toulouse or to one of the many castles or caves. Immediate vicinity In addition to peace, you are also in no time in the beautiful medieval town of Mirepoix (13 km), where the Monday morning market is a real experience full of local products. For your bread you can go to Les Halles in Léran (4 km). In this market hall you can buy fresh bread daily and - depending on the day - other local products (vegetables, meat, eggs, fish). In the neighborhood there are several restaurants that we can recommend. For larger groceries there are various supermarkets in both Mirepoix and Laroque d’Olmes. Every Friday morning there is a large market in Lavelanet (13 km). Lac Montbel If you want a ‘beach day’ then you can go to Lac Montbel's sandy beach (4 km) with pedalos, kayaks, canoes and surf boards or Lac Puivert (20 minutes). You will also find a place to eat at both locations. The beautiful Lac Montbel, just a 5-minute drive away, has a sandy beach, restaurant, plenty of shade and a lifeguard in July and August. It is an ideal place for a summer dip and then to enjoy a drink at the terrace where you can regularly listen to live music in the summer months. You can also walk around the lake (around 16 km). On the Montbel side there is a second beach (pebbles) with a bar and beautiful views. Pedal boats can be rented at both locations. The lake houses an organic trout farm and the local sailing club. Lac Puivert is another beautiful lake just a 20-minute drive away. It is very popular with families with small children and has a playground and a cafe. RELAXING AT THE RIVER (within walking distance) The Touyre River is a 20-minute walk or a few minutes by car. From the house there is a beautiful road towards the river. The beautiful place is usually completely deserted, but is a wonderful place to relax or cool down. There is a picnic area with barbeque, you can swim or bathe in the river, there are climbing walls ... And all this in a truly beautiful environment.
