Carraig Cottages (North and South) sit in a prominent, yet private position in the lovely heritage village of Port Charlotte. Our front lawn stretches down to the lighthouse path and onto several small beaches, inlets and coves. The ever changing views extend beyond the loch, village and harbour towards the coast of Ireland. The new Bruichladdich - Port Charlotte cycle/foot path ends at our cottages, near the entrance to this historical and beautifully preserved village. Welcome. There are two bedrooms, each sleeping two guests; an open plan and fully equipped kitchen diner; and a living room with an open fire. If you’re bringing a little one, there’s a travel cot and infant dining chair available. Outside, there’s a large private driveway, a rear garden with picnic table and chairs and to the front, the lawn extends to the beach and the sea of Loch Indaal. From the sea view windows, look out for otters, seals and dolphins and in the spring, we have the lambs on our doorstep - you’ll lose time literally counting sheep! For those wanting a short break without the car, don’t worry you can fly to Islay and the bus service (check timetable) brings you from the airport door (literally) to our Port Charlotte bus stop. There's no hardship being marooned here, but if you do want to get around, there's bicycle hire available and the local bus stop is just 70 metres away. Full access to loch side lawns and rear garden plus driveway for two cars. As we live next door, we will welcome you upon your arrival and offer any help you may need. We'll then leave you to enjoy your stay and take in all that Port Charlotte, Islay and Jura have to offer. Port Charlotte is a heritage village of white stone cottages. The Port Charlotte Hotel has a conservatory restaurant and a cosy ‘log fire’ bar with live traditional music on Wednesday and Sunday evenings (during normal times). The local pub, the Loch Indaal Inn, has two bars with a pool table and live sports on TV. Along the road, its sister, the Loch Indaal Seafood Kitchen specialises in the sea catches of the day; including the renowned ‘Seafood Platter' for which a 24 hour booking notice is required. This ensures your catch is in the fisherman’s nets and on your table the same day! For the family, the Port Mór Bistro has an enclosed children's play area, a full size football pitch and there's a fully serviced camp site too. All bars and eateries and the local bus stop, which serves Bowmore, the airport and ferry ports, are within walking distance from our cottages. Also in the village you’ll find the local Spar shop with fuel station, a medical centre, Youth Hostel, the Islay Nature Reserve and the Museum of Islay Life. You can arrive and leave Port Charlotte just as you please - via bicycle, boat, bus, kayak, car, taxi or even on foot! If you are coming by public transport, the local bus stop is nearby and the buses run every day except Sunday.
