Welcome to the contemplative hills of Vermont. Travel a winding mountain country road to your remote woodland getaway. Recently renovated, your cheerful accommodations are clean, cozy, refreshing, and equipped for comfort amidst the quiet of nature. Enjoy nearby hiking, kayaking, and swimming. Located 15 minutes from Brattleboro - a mini-metropolis of arts, music, home to Vermont's premier farmers' market, and the choice of simple fare or fine dining. The guest suite is recently renovated with fresh paint, new hardwood floor in the bedroom and tiled backsplash in the kitchen. The space includes a bedroom, bathroom and ample kitchen with lots of light. It is simply decorated with watercolor images of nature and equipped with the comforts of home. The cozy bedroom space has a braided wool rug, hardwood floors and a slanted low ceiling. The queen sized bed is made up with cotton bedding, a country style quilt and plenty of pillows. The bedside tables have local handmade pottery lamps fitted with dimmer switches. A corner desk area has a small working space for your laptop, with wifi and a landline telephone if needed. There is ample closet space and dresser drawers. The bathroom is attractive with a tiled shower, and pretty wooden cabinetry housing plenty of extra bed linens & towels, amenities, and a first aid kit in bottom sink cabinet. The kitchen has a large picture window that looks out over the hillside woodlands and brings in lots of natural light. The full kitchen is well equipped with dining/kitchenware & appliances: stovetop w/oven, 1/2 size refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker, electric water kettle, toaster, pots and pans, hand mixer, etc. and serving ware. An old fashioned enamel top table seated with 2 cherry wooden chairs offers a quaint and relaxing place to dine. The cupboard is supplied with basic staples: ground coffee, a sampling of teas, sugar, spices, salt, pepper, and olive oil. Outside your entrance there is a shared deck with table & chairs and the nearby natural areas have small flower gardens, as well as being quite wild grown with surrounding woodlands. Please note: Your guest suite is on the 2nd floor and we live downstairs below. Sound travels and you may occasionally hear activity below (and the dogs outside). Quiet hours after 10pm are very important to us. Thank you for understanding. Please let us know your estimated arrival time so we can greet you and give a brief orientation to the guest suite. Guests access their 2nd floor guest suite from their own entrance. NOTE: We follow Vermont's pandemic restrictions when they are in effect. Depending on the active state restrictions this MAY include practicing social distancing and wearing a mask when engaging with guests and when in all public locations. Please follow the listing rules and wipe down all bathroom and kitchen surfaces before your departure. Please let us know your estimated arrival time so we can greet you. Guests access their 2nd floor guest suite from their own entrance. It is important for us to greet the guests so our 2 dogs are oriented to your presence. Please note: Your guest suite is on the 2nd floor and we live downstairs below. Sound travels and you will ocassionally hear activity below (and the dogs outside). Quiet hours after 10pm are important to us. Thank you for understanding. I am happy to assist as time allows although you will mostly be on your own. The best way to communicate with me is via this Airbnb platform, or to call (number is located on the kitchen information sheet). Or, to follow the walkway adjacent to the garage and knock on the sunroom door (mask wearing and social distancing apply unless otherwise noted in booking communications). Nearby Stickney Brook is known for its enchanting waterfalls and unusual geological rock formations. People travel from around the country to photograph its beauty and delight in its refreshing, restorative qualities. Along the drive you will see a true representation of Vermont homes: simple dwellings, homestead properties, and small cabins, all in varying conditions. This is hill country, heavily forested, and peaceful. Owls hoot at night, turkeys cross the roads, deer jump about, and nature is abundant. Foliage season is lovely and always inspiring. Regionally located near the scenic Connecticut River and West River Valley this listing has easy access to Brattleboro - a mini-metropolis of arts, music, and the choice of simple fare or fine dining. We have movie and stage theaters, a thriving Main Street with several independent book shops, boutiques, and art galleries. Fresh local food is available at the Brattleboro Food Coop, the farmers market or local farm stands. Enjoy nearby hiking, kayaking, swimming, and foliage season. Cross country skiing is widely available, or downhill skiing at Stratton or Mount Snow are each 45 minutes away. Kayak or canoe on the Connecticut and West Rivers, or nearby Sunset Lake, and hike on the numerous local trails or in the state parks. During summer months, the highly regarded Marlboro and Yellow Barn Music Festivals are held nearby. You can spend the day antiquing or meander through the tempting Grafton Cheese Company in Brattleboro. There are numerous festivals throughout the seasons, including the famous Dummerston Apple Pie Festival, Newfane Heritage Festival, Harris Hill Ski Jump, Artists' Tours, a monthly gallery walk night, plus many more events. We are fortunate to have Vermonts largest and oldest Farmers' Market - a delightful place to spend a Saturday, May thru October. Take a tour of Naulakha (estate of Rudyard Kipling and where he wrote the Jungle Book), and Scott Farm Orchard where the gorgeous landscape filming of Cider House Rules took place. The southern Vermont region is a thriving cultural community with music, theater, arts and crafts. The listing is located 2.5 miles up an elevating, winding country road in a quiet, remote woodland setting on a little mountain. The road is well maintained by the town and is easily passable in the spring, summer and fall. Keep in mind this is a dirt road and will naturally have bumps or washboard. Winter travel requires a sense of adventure, 4-wheel drive and experience driving in wintry weather conditions. For a winter stay, you will need to send a special request. This listing is located in hill country and there are steep, winding roads to drive up! Please park on the left facing side, near the pathways (away from the front of garage). The listing is located 2.5 miles up a little mountain. The winding country road is well maintained by the town, and is easily passable in the spring, summer and fall. Keep in mind this is a dirt road and will naturally have bumps or washboard. WINTER STAYS: Inquire for more information. Downtown Brattleboro has Amtrak Train service from NYC. Their departure and arrival times change so please research for the most up to date schedule. There is no public transit out this way. *Please let us know your estimated arrival time so we (I and the dogs) can greet you and show you the entrance to the guest suite. THE DOGS: I have 2 beloved Australian Shepherd dogs, Honor & Gracie. They are friendly and energetic. They will occasionally bark at the going-ons in the area (other animals, when you arrive, in the evening as the forest creatures begin to emerge). Please let me know with any questions. IMPORTANT: They are on an invisible fence and are not able to go into the driveway; please do not call to them towards the front of the garage area. They are not allowed in the apartment. Thank you! CHICKENS: There may or may not be chickens on the premises during your stay. We consider them pets but they are not for guests to play with :) If you are lucky, you might get some fresh eggs for breakfast. You may also hear them clucking. THE LOCATION: The listing is located 2.5 miles up a little mountain. For most guests, the location feels remote. The winding country road is well maintained by the town, and is easily passable in the spring, summer and fall. Keep in mind this is a dirt road and will naturally have potholes or washboard. I block off the calendar during winter months, although guest inquiries are welcome. That said, you would need to have adequate transportation (all wheel drive SUV, studded snow tires), and experience driving on mountainous backroads in winter weather. There is a good chance you could get stranded here during snowy-icy weather. PROXIMITY: We live in the apartment below. Sound travels and we ask that guests are mindful of noise at night and respect quiet time after 10 pm. This is important to us. INTERNET/WIFI: Wifi service is with Verizon. It is generally sufficient for most guests but can be spotty, slow or challenging for streaming without interruptions, especially during inclement weather. The apartment is equipped with a landline for guest use if needed. Interstate calls only, no International calls.
