Lovely cottage in secluded garden
Ruacan cottage is a lovely cottage set in a secluded garden and dating from the 19th century. A five minute stroll from the cottage takes you to the local strand where you can walk for miles along the sand when the tide is out. Narin beach is perfect for swimming and is just a short car ride, perfect for swimming! The town of Ardara with it's many traditional pubs, restaurants and shops is 2.5 miles. We would recommend hiring a car as public transport is limited. The cottage has been lovingly restored by the current owners and is decorated simply and beautifully with local art and ceramics. Set in approx 0.75 acre secluded garden. There are two good sized bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with a double and a large single. A spacious kitchen is fully equipped with electric oven and hob, dishwasher and all kitchen utensils. There is also a large farmhouse table with plenty of seating. The sitting room is cosy with comfortable seating and a wood burning stove for cool nights. There are plenty of books, including books on birds and wildflowers as well as board games. Ruacan cottage is nestled into a hollow, barely visible from the lane. At well over a hundred years old, it was the home of a tweed weaver and has seen plenty of life over the years! As with any old cottage, its not perfect but is cosy, quirky and has plenty of character. We love it. NB there is no wifi or TV; switch off! Guests will be renting the whole cottage. Two good sized bedrooms, a cosy sitting room with wood burning stove and comfortable sofas and a spacious well equipped kitchen (incl. dishwasher) with a large table and views over the surrounding countryside. Simple bathroom with electric shower; linens and towels provided. I live in Belfast but am contactable by phone and email. A local woman is on hand if required. Donegal is one of the most beautiful counties in Ireland and is a perfect base for exploring the wild Atlantic way. See National Geographic's recent report on the county (Website hidden by Airbnb) Miles of sandy beaches, hill walking, water sports and fishing all make Donegal the perfect destination. Nearby beaches include Narin (perfect for swimming), Tramor and Maghera. Outdoors not your thing? You can relax and enjoy traditional music and great food in Ardara's many cosy pubs or experience Ardara's hand weaving tradition by visiting renowned tweed makers Eddie Doherty and John Molloy. Ardara is close to the bustling towns of Killybegs and Donegal Town. Ruacan cottage is about 2.5 miles outside the town of Ardara. Also close to glenties, Kilybegs and Donegal town. Parking on site for two cars. Rural area and limited public transport so recommend that you have use of a car. Reasonable use of electric and heating included in price a basket of logs also included - further firewood can be bought in Ardara. Excessive use may incur additional charges. Hiring a car is recommended as public transport is limited.
