Janet, the hostess, recently purchased an old farm school and with much love and care has transformed it into her residence, accommodation, a venue for creative workshops and is in the process of developing a food and medicinal garden. The School offers guests a unique, farmstyle experience for those who love nature, hiking, cycling and birding. It is a home-from-home stay. Rheenedal lies in the heart of the Garden Route. Janet is an avid hiker and nature lover and is happy to guide those with similar interests. She makes a mean cup of coffee, offers guests the use of her extensive library of books and vinyls. Breakfasts are optional and will offer fare from the area - farm eggs and milk, her own yoghurt, seasonal and local fruit. Your stay at the school will be a rustic, quirky, healthy experience reflecting Janet and her passions. Other than their allocated room guests are welcome to visit the main house to peruse the library both books and vinyl records and to sit in the warmth of the wood fired oven in winter. You might even be offered a coffee / tea / glass of wine. I will be present to meet and greet and offer info regarding cycling, hiking and whatever else guests might be interested in Rheenedal is a ± 20 minute / 22 km drive to the closest town of Knysna. There one can find many restaurants, coffee shops, a waterfront complex and countless spots of exquisite natural beauty. Janet will provide guests with excellent coffee / tea and there are a couple of restaurants in the immediate area - one of which specialises in homegrown, vegetarian food. Most of all there are several walks and cycle routes to rivers, indigenous forests, old gold mines and the forests where elephants still reside. Nature is still pristine and unspoiled offering city dwellers respite, relaxation and some healthy exercise. Guests will require their own transport as there is no public transport in the immediate vicinity. The closest beach, Buffalo Bay is 26 km away. Knysna, the closest town is 22 kms away. There is a very popular cycling route from Rheenendal to Knysna via the Phantom Pass and several walking routes within a 10km radius from The School. In summer there is a relatively short, if steep walk to a magnificent river, known as Drupkelders. In season this can get booked up as only X 12 are allowed at any one time so booking will be required. Totties, a lovely country restaurant is ± 5 kms from The School - very manageable per foot or cycle - Janet can provide X 2 bicycles - not state-of-the art but will get you there and back! She will also provide a picnic basket for those venturing down to the river - on request only.
