Sea Winds, is a newly renovated c. 1760 two-storey listed townhouse located in the picturesque south end of Commercial Street, Lerwick. With beautiful open views over Bain's Beach, you can enjoy life by the sea with all the modern comforts of the house has to offer, including a wood burning stove. Close to the BBC series 'Shetland 'Jimmy Perez' home', and minutes walk from the shops, restaurants and pubs in Lerwick, Sea Winds makes an excellent base to tour the isles. Before you arrive, I'll will arrange a key for you so you can have full access to Sea Winds. While Sea Winds is quite secluded in the Lodberries, its only minutes away from all the pubs and eating places in Lerwick. The Lounge Bar, by Market Cross, is a 5 minute walk away is a great place for a drink and meet locals. During the summer months, there is live music. As for food, the best coffee and soup in town, is the Peerie Shop Cafe which is 5 minutes away by the Esplanade. They also do wonderful breakfasts and lunches of smoked salmon on bagels although I always end up ordering their superb soup. On Commercial Street, there are two wonderful restaurants, 'The Dowry' and 'No.88' both serving local produce. Also Fjara, a lovely restaurant/cafe by the sea, is another good place for lunches or evening meals. Hay's Dock Cafe at the Shetland Museum & Archives is also another lovely place to eat with stunning views across the harbour. Further north in Brae, is one of the best fish & chip shops in the UK, Frankies. Although Lerwick's own The Fort is equally good! As for take-aways, there are two Indian, two Chinese and one Thai restaurant so all in all, you don't need to cook if you want a complete break from it all. If you enjoy fish, another tip is just to head to Blydoit Fish Shop and just stock up on their wonderful smoked fish and Orkney oatcakes and have a picnic with views of the sea (weather permitting)! While it is best to come to Shetland by car or hire a car, to explore the isles, Sea Winds is only minutes from the main bus station in Lerwick or the taxi rank by the Esplanade. Sumburgh Airport is just over 25 miles away and about 30 minutes by car to Sea Winds. Northlink Ferry terminal is about 5 minutes away by car.
