Stunning villa with private pool close to Rome in the Sabine countryside Located near the medieval village of Roccantica within the province of Rieti and less than 60 km from Rome (about 50 minutes by car or by train), the Antica Palombara is an old seventeenth-century stone countryhouse of great charm and elegance surrounded by the beautiful, rolling Sabine countryside which has remained essentially unchanged over time. Well-kept gardens surround the villa and the pool. The grounds include a romantic orchard and a sloping olive grove. Views are enchanting. On a clear day one can catch a glimpse of St. Peter’s dome in the eternal city! The villa is the ideal base from which to visit on day trips central Italy's big gems such as Rome, Orvieto, Viterbo, Assisi and Perugia. Many close-by small gems such as Roccantica itself, Casperia, Cantalupo, Poggio Catino, Poggio Mirteto and the medieval abbeys of Vescovio and Farfa are also very definitely worth a visit. Rome (and not only) can be reached by car or by train in roughly 50 minutes. The local train station at Poggio Mirteto Scalo is only 15 minutes (11 km) away and can be reached by public bus. However, having a car is strongly recommended for sightseeing, dining at restaurants, shopping for food and wine or touring the area in search of the renowned local olive oil. If coming in by air, renting a car at the airport on arrival is possibly your best bet. On return from day trips as well as at any time during your stay, we suggest you enjoy the beautiful pool relaxing on the loungers or playing with the children’s inflatables. Basking in the Sabine sun in the late afternoon while sipping an aperitif is a treat. Sunsets can be magical. On the other hand, relaxing is what you might find you want to do the whole day long and the Antica Palombara is the right place for this as well. The villa is on two floors plus an attic and a turret. The spacious living room, the dining room, the kitchen and a guest bathroom are on the ground floor. The main rooms have french windows that open onto the garden. Part of the garden is paved and there is a pergola furnished for aperitifs and enjoying al fresco dining. On the first floor you will find four bedrooms (three doubles and one twin) and three bathrooms (one en-suite), a small sitting room and a kitchenette. Under the sloping ceiling of the attic there are two additional bedrooms (one double and one twin), a bathroom equipped with a washing machine and a multi-functional utility/laundry room. Finally, after another flight of stairs you will find the turret from whose quaint windows you can admire the best views. It houses a small library which we hope you will enjoy browsing.
