The house, although modern, is built in the traditional Alentejo style and therefore very well insulated. Central heating in winter and portable fans in the summer provide comfort throughout the year. The 'Monte do Rei Santo' is the ideal place for any time of year, offering a huge range of activities: swimming in the pool, long walks, bird watching and on winter nights, roasting chestnuts by the fireplace. There are cave paintings nearby, (properly signposted) which is another point of interest. A car is essential for this holiday as there is no public transport to the house. The village of Arronches is 9 km away and offers small restaurantes and some markets. Further afield, the town of Portalegre is 30km away and offers more serious entertainment: restaurants, shops, supermarkets and another facilities. Lisbon, with its culture and monuments, is 2.5 hours away. The border with Spain is 2km away and the town of Badajoz is 1 hour away by motorway, with all facilities: restaurants, shops and more entertainment. Caceres and Seville are an easy day trip.
