A fantastic historical event is 'Sponsal Monsampolo - small but great!: Monsampolo del Tronto (mt 184, ab 4500) maintains the visual aspect of a fortified medieval city surrounded by the hills out of which it emerges. Interesting sites are the 14th, 15th and 16th century towers, the main entrance and the walls outside the city, the17th century convent of San Francesco con Chiostro, site of the Municipal Museum, and the Public Library, 'Tomistica di san Alessio with more than 1,300 volumes(15th to 19th century). Another attraction are the underground connecting ways under the historical houses. They where used to store food and to connect houses underground. Few years ago the city decided to restore them and now they can be visited. Sometimes there are used for exhibitions.
