Sandy road near the beach, may need a 4x4 to reach some of the lodges by the beaches, but also alternatives for normal vehicles Bilene laguna beach one day tour, about 3 hours drive from Maputo, good road and good restaurants to eat and also stay overnight. Very quite during weekdays Ponta do Ouro beach, best two day tour about 117km from Maputo (South, near the border with South Africa, St. Lucia), good road most of the way but still need a 4x4 for the last part of the road. Access is difficult due to the time to cross the ferry to Katembe that may take a few hours in the queue (both ways) Namaacha vila, one day tour (in the Libombo mountains, near the border with Swaziland), about 70km (1 hour drive) from Maputo. Nice views and fresh air, small villa with a few hotels to eat and rest. Small waterfall and forest. Inhaca and Santa Maria Island, one day tour 90 min boat tour, beach and snorkeling at Santa Maria, visit the Biology Museum, lunch at Inhaca village, visit the vila, visit the Portuguese Island, and return to Maputo. Better to take cash as there is limited banking service in the island. Take some snacks and water with you. You should be able to see elephants, zebra, girafes, antilopes, hippos, birds, etc. May also see turtles in the nesting period (October – March) if lucky!
