Die Wasbak: Greyton is an oasis in the heartland of history and takes its name from the original outside washing stand under an ancient pear tree - the Wasbak. A refreshed heart and soul is guaranteed. Old world charm with modern amenities, while a community spirit abounds Situated five minutes away from the historic Genadendal, a Moravian missionary station, Genadendal is a town in the Western Cape province of South Africa, built on the site of the oldest mission station in the country. It was originally known as Baviaanskloof. At times the host or co-host will meet you and upon request in advance, a walking tour of the history of nearby Genadendal may be arranged Neighbouring Genadendal is a town in the Western Cape province of South Africa, and is the site of the oldest mission station in the country with the most authentic museum in the country. It was originally known as Baviaanskloof when settled by Moravian missionaries led initially by Geoge Schmidt evangelizing the indigenous Khoi clans. Greyton has a number of wine estates in the area and indeed has been declared as its own viticultural terroir quite distinct from the Walker Bay, Stellenbosch and Botrivier vineyards. Greyton, while being a haven for artists and writers of all descriptions, and hosts the annual classic music festival in autumn, also is surrounded by excellent hiking trials and mountain bike routes. One well known trail links Greyyon and MacGregor on the route which rugby clubs used on weekends when they played matches against each other. Italian prisoners of war started building a road through this only midway passage through the mountain range, but it ceased when only a few metres were complete as the war then ceased as well! Famous for the Greyton McGregor hike, mountain bike trails, Greyton Genadendal Classics fo All music festival in autumn, the annual Rose Show, craft breweries and its hospitality. Pet friendly with prior arrangements only.
