Near Superior Hiking Trail, Coho/Bluefin Bay, Lutsen. Firefly is a newly built (2019), beautifully crafted, one-room timber frame cabin on 2-acres of private land. The 16’x16' log cabin has all-surrounding windows and glimmer-sized views of Lake Superior and pine forest. In addition to the magical hygge vibe of this cabin, you can also find beauty and artistry in its architecture - a traditional Norwegian cabin with unique design twists by arctic explorer, Lonnie Dupre, and handcrafted timber frame held together with wood peg joints by local master craftsman, Peter Henrikson, of North House Folk School. Firefly has convenient parking right next to the cabin, and it has the luxury of a sauna and fireplace. You provide : Queen Sheets. Towels (kitchen, bath). Pack-in/Pack-out: So, 'Leave it as you found it' (clean and take garbage with you). Firefly provides: A queen-size bed, blankets, pillows, a kitchen equipped for cooking (2 burner electric stove, mini fridge, full kitchen dishes/utensils/pots/pans, a toaster oven, garbage bags/foil/etc.), a dining/work table, two lounge chairs, an indoor gas fireplace with a thermostat, an outdoor charcoal grill, deck and camping chairs, a fire pit, and a sauna with bucket shower. Water: Well water is available on the land for drinking/cooking/cleaning - you fill and carry 2-gallon water jugs provided for you. There's also a clean, cute outhouse with 30 feet of the cabin (with heat lamp linked to a flip switch inside the cabin and yoga-mat toilet seat to prevent a frozen bum during the wintertime!). While this is a perfect cozy cabin to tuck into, it’s also a prime little spot for jumping off into adventure! It is within walking distance of Bluefin Bay Resort and Restaurant, where you can access Lake Superior's Public walkways along the water, including a stunning rocky beach, as well as enjoy happy hour/dinner/seasonal fire pits. Also 2 blocks from Coho Cafe where there's breakfast/lunch/dessert, and next door is a gift shop. Also, the General Store on the corner is a combination gas station/liquor store with a stocked grocery store with meat/fish/produce. Sawtooth Outfitters is 0.5 mi away with all-season rental equipment. Firefly is on Sawbill Trail, the road leading to Boundary Waters Canoe Area, 1.5 mi from the Superior Hiking Trail, 2 blocks from the Superior biking trail, Carlton Peak and other hikes, and 7 miles from Lutsen Ski resort. You provide: Queen sheets, Towels (kitchen and bath), Shampoo There isn't any running water inside the cabin, but you can collect water from the well. It's a natural artesian well. It has been approved for drinking. There are refillable 2-gallon water jugs serving as a faucet over the kitchen sink making it easy to clean dishes/self-wash etc. It empties into a bucket under the sink which can be dumped when full. There’s a plastic tub for easy self-cleaning, and water heats up very quickly in the electric kettle. There also isn't a cleaner (which saves you on cleaning fees and allows you to check out later than usual!), so your ability to leave the place as you found it is fundamental to maintaining lower-cost, & a healthy space for the next folks who are seeking a peaceful place to rest, create and rejuvenate. POOL/HOT TUB/SAUNA/SHOWER: You can pay $5 for access to pool/sauna/hot tub/showers at Lutsen Resort (9 mi), or Americinn (0.5 mi away!).
