Stay at the most northerly petting farm in the U.K! Relax in comfort with views of the sea from your bedroom window and time with some of the friendliest animals you will ever meet! Puffin Cottage is ideally laid out for a family or group of friends. You have your own private entrance to the Cottage giving you the freedom to come and go as you want. There are two bedrooms upstairs at either end of the corridor with a shared bathroom in the middle. Bedroom 1. Has a double bed with a King size Duvet for extra duvet cover. Bedroom 2 has two single beds with double duvets. Breakfast is included in your stay and each morning the breakfast room is laid out with cereals, freshly baked bread, eggs from the farm etc. and arranged to be self service. Your stay includes unlimited free access to the petting farm during it's opening hours (10am - 6pm in summer, 10am - dark in winter) On the farm there are donkeys, goats, sheep, pigs, rabbits, chickens and ducks as well as the farm cats and dog. All the animals are very friendly and sociable. They love you more when you have some food to feed them! (Please note only animal feed bought in the farm shop is allowed, apart from if you want to give peas to the ducks - not bread!) There is also a farm shop on site open every day that sells a variety of baked sweet and savory goodies from my bakery, some home made products and souvenirs like candles, soaps, knitted hats etc. Along with jams, coffee, snacks, drinks, eggs, fruit and veg. There is normally someone around the farm to help if you have questions and are welcome to come to the farmhouse door if you need help. I am also happy if you want to send me a message via social media or email from your room if more convenient. Because of the work on the farm i go to bed very early so do ask not to be disturbed after 8pm. The post office is located just over the road from the farm and an ideal place to grab essentials or withdraw money. The local pub is located behind the farm a few minutes walk from the farm. They serve meals all day, show sports on t.v and often host musical events. They also stock John O'Groats locally brewed beers. The harbour is a ten minute walk from the farm where there are places to eat during the day including a very nice cafe bistro called Stacks which also serves evening meals on some days, an ice cream parlour, tourist information and local craft shops. Through the summer local tours take place and the foot ferry to the Orkneys operates. One of the best walking routes in the local area is at the end of the road shared with the farm the world famous Duncansby head with its stunning sea stacks. Park at the lighthouse and walk along the coastline for stunning views and wildlife sightings. There are many beaches in the local area to explore, a few miles down the road is Dunnet Beach one of the most stunning beaches in the area, opposite is Dunnet Forest with well laid out footpaths often showing wood sculptures along the way. There are buses from Wick and Thurso the nearest towns into John O'Groats. There are train stations in both Thurso and Wick and Wick also has an airport. Local taxis operate in the area and it costs about £40 from Wick to John O'Groats. During the summer months there is a foot ferry operating from the harbour to the Orkneys. There is a car ferry a few minutes down the road at Gills that runs all year round, weather permitting! The easiest way to see the area is by car and there is plenty of off road parking at the farm. Farmer for a Morning! Would you like to take part in the morning animal routine and learn about all the different foods the animals eat? Access the farm before it opens to the public for the day and enjoy the animals most favourite part of the day - breakfast! Farmer for a morning starts at 8am in the summer and 8.30am in winter and lasts approximately an hour. It costs £10 per person. Children under 5 must be accompanied by an adult and counts as just one booking. You can book online or arrange with me when you arrive subject to availability.
