Merchants House

The 18th Century Merchants House has been renovated to contemporary styling whilst retaining the traditional features of wood panelled walls, doors and original fireplaces. The flagstoned dining kitchen has a traditional feel and you will be greeted with a welcome pack and fresh flowers. Sliding doors to the courtyard leads to the spacious sitting room with large mult-ifuel stove. The bedrooms all have stunning sea views with choice of down or synthetic duvets and fine cotton bedlinen. All areas of the house. It is possible to book two of the 4 rooms in the low season for reduced tariff. The courtyard and garden are shared with the adjacent cottage. All areas are accessible to visitors I always greet visitors and am at hand during their stay to help with any tour suggestions. I live in the Stromness area 5minutes drive away. Positioned at the quieter southern end of Stromness on the waterfront it is very handy for all amenities, cafes, bars and restaurants, galleries and gift shops. Local meat, fish, dairy and bakery products are all available in the town and there is also an excellent Co-op supermarket. I recommend having a car to get to far reaching areas of the mainland however there is plenty to see on foot and buses run hourly to the main town of Kirkwall and connections to the airport and St Margaret's Hope are frequent. Ferries run from the harbour for a day visit to the neighbouring island of Hoy or arrive and depart by car ferry to the Scottish mainland with connections by bus and train to all areas of Scotland and beyond. A visiting cat will call for a cuddle and food - loved by most visitors but has another home if not.
