One bedroom apartment with efficiency kitchen in downtown Wilkes-Barre. Well-appointed for short stays; gets pretty light in the mornings and diffuse light the rest of the day. The little pocket kitchen has a half-fridge and small stove / oven, coffee with a manual grinder, and looseleaf teas. The building is adjacent to Wilkes College, a block from the bike path along the river, two blocks from Public Square and just around the corner from the movies. I made a guidebook with some ideas for spending time in the area... Wilkes-Barre requires a little curating, but staying here would be a great alternative to local hotels if anything brings you to town. A note on climate: there is building-controlled steam heat in the winter and in the summertime, I use an air conditioner in the living room and a fan in the bedroom window. I've found that guests who prefer to have more control over temperature for their comfort do not enjoy the apartment as much as others. Please keep in mind this is the top floor of a very old building. A note on the neighborhood: the other units in this building are occupied, and the privacy of these tenants must be respected. Additionally, downtown Wilkes-Barre has two colleges, and the building next door rents to students-- the bedroom window of the apartment faces the neighbors' kitchen entrance and the living room window faces one of their bedrooms. This block is very quiet compared to other streets in the area; guests are expected to keep noise to an appropriate minimum at all times and I rarely hear noise from any neighbors, but it could be a possibility. If you need a silent environment, downtown may not be the best option for your stay. Unfortunately, guest pets can no longer be accommodated due to past damage in the apartment. Check-in and check-out times are flexible and will be confirmed with guests after booking. Check-ins after 10pm are not allowed except in extenuating circumstances.
